The Lax Kw’alaams Recreation Department has an exciting and immediate opening for two Part-Time Guest Service Worker. As a key member of the team, this role is responsible for answering questions about the facility and its programs and services, registering participants for programs and services, handling cash, working in other areas of the facility, such as the weight room, gym, swimmer’s cafe or assisting in Brighter Futures and maintaining a clean lobby and work area.
Responsibilities
Perform daily opening and closing duties
Deliver exceptional customer service to guests, staff, and volunteers by greeting and assisting in a friendly, skilled manner and providing accurate information about programs, services, and facility amenities.
Maintain a clean, organized, and welcoming front desk area; monitor facility access and ensure guests follow policies and safety procedures
Develop and maintain a professional & courteous relationship with guests, staff and volunteers
Follow all checklists, procedures and schedule of tasks
Assist with the purchase of monthly passes and punch card passes, as well as the booking for rentals
Ensure that all cash, credit and debit transactions are completed and processed accurately and documented correctly; all cash out procedures are balanced at the end-of-shift
Sell retail items from the swimmer’s café and distribute promotional materials.
Report any incidents, maintenance problems or safety concerns to the Supervisor
Support other departments and special events as needed
Note
Perform all other duties within the scope of the position and as requested by the Recreation Director
QUALIFICATIONS
Education
High School Diploma
Post-Secondary Education is an asset
Experience
1-year of previous work experience in a customer service, hospitality, or administrative role is an asset
Willing to be trained
Competency
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Strong organizational skills
Ability to problem-solve and resolve conflicts effectively with both staff and guests
Strong work ethics
Dependable and flexible; available for last-minute shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Consistently punctual and reliable for all assigned or covered shifts.
Ability to work collaboratively with diverse groups of people
Ability and willingness to learn and adapt to a fast-paced and changing work environment
Ability to work individually and as part of a team
Able to make cash changes and complete accurate cash reports
Excellent technological skills, including Microsoft Office, booking systems, or POS software and equipment like calculators, photocopiers, fax machines, and printers
Ability to demonstrate a commitment to embodying a healthy lifestyle
Physical Demands and Working Environment
Physical Demand
You may have to spend long hours sitting and using office equipment and computers
You may have to spend long hours standing and walking around the facility to make sure guests needs are met
Mental Demands
You will have to complete several tasks and responsibilities at one time and must be prepared to deal with emergencies and stressful situations at any time
Condition of Employment
You will adhere to the Lax Kw’alaams Band Code of Conduct, Code of Confidentiality, Social Media Policy and any other Policies in the Human Resource Manual
Follow all guidelines harmoniously and cooperatively, creating a team approach in their duties for the Band’s future success
Acceptable Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Search
Valid Driver’s License (Class 5) is an asset
Classification/Pay Scale
$21.53 per hour
As per the Canadian Union of Public Employees’ Local 2365 Collective Agreement
** Preference will be given to Lax Kw’alaams Band Members or qualified applicants of Indigenous ancestry.
