About St Michael’s Elementary
St Michael’s Elementary is an elementary Catholic school for boys and girls, from Kindergarten to grade 7. The school is a dynamic and welcoming community that nurtures a love of learning and sustains a life‑giving community. The school is in the heart of Burnaby, BC, close to parks, restaurants, and easy access to downtown Vancouver.
Job Description
St. Michael's Elementary is seeking a dedicated and compassionate After School Care Supervisor to oversee and facilitate the daily operations of the after‑school program. The ideal candidate will ensure a safe, nurturing, and structured environment for students to engage in various activities, complete homework, and develop social skills in alignment with the school’s Catholic values.
This is a part‑time position from 3 PM to 6 PM, Monday through Friday, on days when the school is in session. Physical activity is required and will include walking, standing, and occasional lifting of up to 25 pounds.
Key Responsibilities
Supervision and Safety – oversee the safety and well‑being of students during after‑school hours and monitor activities to ensure a safe and respectful atmosphere.
Program Implementation – plan and facilitate engaging educational, recreational, and spiritual development activities; assist students with homework and provide additional academic support.
Communication – maintain open and effective communication with parents, teachers, and school administration; provide regular updates to the Principal about program operations and student behaviour.
Administrative Duties – keep accurate records of student attendance and incidents; assist with the setup and cleanup of program spaces and materials.
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent required; college coursework in education, child development, or a related field preferred.
Previous experience working with children in an educational or recreational setting.
Experience or coursework related to working with children with diverse needs or abilities is an asset.
Skills and Abilities
Strong organizational and multitasking abilities.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to manage and resolve conflicts effectively.
Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a team‑oriented environment.
