POSITION OVERVIEW
ABC Recycling Ltd. is seeking an experienced Heavy Equipment Operator – Material Handler (Wheeled Excavator) to be based out of our Burnaby, BC. location. Reporting to the General Manager, you will operate a large wheeled material handler (excavator-style machine equipped with a grapple attachment) to sort, load, unload, and process scrap metal in a fast-paced recycling yard. This role also involves operating other heavy equipment as required while maintaining a strong commitment to safety and environmental compliance.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Safely operate a large wheeled material handler (grapple excavator) and other heavy equipment to sort, move, and process scrap metal.

Processesmaterials to customer specifications





Loads and unloads materials from and into various bins, dumps, trailers, and railcars

Assess situational risk and mitigate safety and environmental concerns

Performs maintenance - pre-trip inspections, lubrication, blade alignment and tensioning

Self-manages when operating off site

QUALIFICATIONS:

Related training or experience operating different types of excavators, mobile shears, material handlers, and other heavy equipment such as wheel loaders.

Prior experience with scrap metal recycling and demolition would be a definite asset

Good interpersonal and customer service skills

Knowledgeable about general safety practices

Flexibility with work shifts and ability to travel occasionally

High school diploma or GED certification

KEY:
We frequently operate on and service federally regulated customers that require regular and random drug and alcohol screening (including suppliers and contractors). As such, you will also be subject to an initial and then ongoing random drug and alcohol screening as a condition of your employment.
