The Leadership and Talent Management Branch is building a stronger, more integrated approach to executive talent management across the APS. We partner with senior leaders to strengthen leadership pipelines, improve succession readiness, and support thoughtful talent decisions that help organizations meet current and future priorities.
As a Senior Talent Management Consultant, you will work with Deputy Ministers, Assistant Deputy Ministers, Executive Directors, HR leaders, and executive search partners to help identify, develop, and mobilize leadership talent across government. Your work will influence succession planning, leadership development, executive movement, and enterprise talent strategies that strengthen leadership capacity across the APS.
This role combines strategic advising, talent management, analytics, program design, and organizational consulting. If you enjoy helping leaders navigate complex talent decisions and are energized by enterprise-wide impact, we'd love to hear from you.
Provide advice to senior leaders on executive talent management, succession planning, leadership readiness, and talent mobility.
Partner with ministries to identify leadership risks, opportunities, and succession priorities.
Design and enhance talent management frameworks, programs, tools, and practices.
Facilitate talent discussions that help leaders make informed decisions about current and future leadership needs.
Use talent data, analytics, and insights to support evidence-informed decision-making.
Collaborate with internal and external partners to advance innovative approaches to leadership and talent management.
Contribute to the ongoing modernization of executive talent management within the APS.
This is more than a traditional HR consulting role.
You will work at the enterprise level, helping shape how leadership talent is identified, developed, and mobilized across government.
Your work will directly inform discussions with senior executives and contribute to decisions that affect leadership continuity, succession strength, and organizational performance across the public service.
You’ll also have the opportunity to leverage talent intelligence, analytics, and emerging approaches to support the evolving future of talent management in government.
In this role, you’ll help ensure the Alberta Public Service has the leadership capacity, succession strength, and talent insights needed to meet current challenges and future priorities. A degree in Human Resources, Organizational Development, Business Administration, Public Administration, or a related discipline is typically required. Work directly with Deputy Ministers, Assistant Deputy Ministers, HR Portfolio Directors, Executive Search partners, and senior executives on high-impact leadership and talent decisions.
Help establish the approaches, tools, and practices that guide leadership talent management across the APS.

Creative Problem Solving: Minimum Recruitment Standard :
University Degree in Human Resources, Organizational Development, Business Administration, Public Administration, or a related field.
Experience: 4-years of related experience in enterprise‑level Talent Management, leading the design, modernization, and integration of enterprise‑wide systems and programs, such as, succession frameworks, leadership development, workforce planning, or organizational effectiveness initiatives.

Designing and implementing talent management programs, frameworks, tools, or systems.
Experience providing advice and recommendations to senior leaders.

Experience in designing and enhancing talent management frameworks, programs, tools, and practices.
Assets include
Experience working within the Government of Alberta or broader public sector environment.
Knowledge of APS executive talent management, leadership development, and succession planning practices.
Experience using workforce, talent, or leadership-related data to inform decision-making.
Familiarity with APS corporate systems and processes.
Minimum recruitment standards outline the minimum education and experience required for appointment to a job classification.
Hours of Work : 36.25 Hours per week, Monday to Friday onsite.
This is a permanent full-time position.
