Job Description: POSITION PURPOSE SUMMARY Reporting to the Assistant Property Manager, the Maintenance Worker is responsible to address the safety and comfort of our clients and staff by carrying out general maintenance and repair tasks to furnishings, fixtures and equipment within the 160 Jarvis and Alice M Walter House. The Maintenance Worker will always work safely, within their skill set, and according to regulation and policy for facility maintenance.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACTIVITIES Check on all building systems, maintain regular checklist reports, and report potential problem situations to Assistant Property Manager and Property Manager
Maintain equipment logs
Ensure that safe work procedures and SDS documents are followed when using chemicals as part of duties
May assist in performing minor equipment and maintenance repairs, such as electrical (change burnt out bulbs), plumbing (repairs plumbing fixtures such as taps, sinks, toilets), painting (touch-up and decorating repairs) throughout the building including client units in the treatment and transitional housing program
Recommends maintenance and equipment repairs to Assistant Property Manager and Property Manager




Conducts checks and minor troubleshooting of building systems such as the building alarm, HVAC etc.
Maintain a log sheet to track and record tasks undertaken during shift
Perform checks of the general upkeep of external property
Assists the Assistant Property Manager in performing fire inspections in keeping with Health & Safety policies and procedures
Immediately report safety concerns and major repair issues to the Assistant Property Manager and Property Manager
Assist the Assistant Property Manager during health and safety inspections
Check doors and windows to ensure building security is maintained
ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS Grade 12 plus two years of related experience: previous cleaning experience and familiarity with cleaning procedures and chemicals;
Previous experience in preventative maintenance programs and building maintenance experience;
Various trade experiences would be an asset
Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
Ability to deal with others effectively, ability to develop and maintain respectful relationships
Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position
Ability to organize work
Familiar with computer operation
Must have completed or be willing to complete WHMIS training and First Aid/CPR
Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Training would be an asset
A Vulnerable Sector Check that is acceptable to The Salvation Army at its sole discretion

MANAGERIAL/Technical Leadership Responsibility: Reports directly to: Assistant Property Manager
WORKING CONDITIONS The performance of the job requires frequent use of cleaning equipment and tools. Physical effort needed in mopping, sweeping, bending/twisting, lifting, climbing, carrying, ladder work, painting. Moderate to high levels of attention and concentration when using electrical or mechanical equipment. Care is required in the use of hazardous chemicals.
Compensation The target hiring range for this position is $18.50 to $23.13 with a maximum of $27.76. Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.
