Job Overview:
A Powerline Technician is responsible for the maintenance and construction of high voltage circuits. A Powerline Technician is responsible for the installation, jointing, splicing, testing, bonding racking and repairing of all types of high voltage electrical cables, the fitting of potheads and other accessories to cables, as well as the assembly, testing repair and maintenance of such accessories.
Responsibilities:
Install, repair, troubleshoot and maintain electrical distribution and transmission systems including overhead and underground power lines and cables, insulators, conductors, lightning arrestors, switches, transformers and other associated equipment
Perform line maintenance in a safe and efficient manner utilizing de-energized, rubber glove, live line hot stick or live line bare hand techniques
Erect and maintain steel, wood or concrete poles, towers and guy wires
Read and interpret prints, maps, drawings and other trade documents
Inspect and test overhead and underground power lines, cables and auxiliary equipment using electrical test equipment
Safely operate heavy duty utility equipment including Radial Boom Derricks (R.B.D), bucket trucks, and related equipment as required Maintain personal and group safety at all times
Be a positive team member through open communication with the crew and active participation in crew tasks
Maintain good public relations with persons inside and outside the company
Respond to unscheduled outages as the result of weather, component failures
Respond to on-call duties when required, with a maximum of 1-hour response time
Qualifications and Requirements:
Interprovincial Red Seal Powerline Technician Certificate is required
Valid DZ Driver’s License or higher
Completion of High School Diploma or equivalent is required
Post-secondary education in a related field is an asset
Demonstrated ability to lead and effectively work on teams and mentor apprentices
Ability to climb poles, work at heights and work in extreme weather conditions for extended periods of time
Ability to operate bucket trucks and RBD’s efficiently
Robust communication, leadership, teamwork, and customer service skills
Ability to interpret drawings, develop/ interpret work, and plan projects for self and others
Excellent problem-solving skills
Working Conditions: Outdoors and exposure to various weather conditions. Heavy lifting and working at heights. Travel required.
This posting is for an existing vacancy. Hourly rate: $53.96, subject to future increases governed by the applicable IBEW wage schedule. K-Line does not use AI technology in our recruitment process.
