The Opportunity The team is seeking an experienced and dynamic manager to join the Lincoln Alexander School of Law and ensure all professional placements, student services, programming, career counselling, recruiting initiatives and projects are delivered efficiently and effectively. As a manager, you will oversee all law student placements for the required third-year professional placement program, develop partnerships internally and externally for the professional placement program and careers generally, and ensure operational and service provision excellence to support the faculty’s diverse student body. Key Responsibilities Professional Placements: Collaborates with and supports the Director in the setting and implementation of strategic direction and goals of the CDPPO. Develops strategies to ensure appropriate placement program design in alignment with the Lincoln Alexander School of Law’s pillars and equity in pay. Manages all aspects of the professional placement program, and supervises and provides support to satisfy employer relationships, placement contract implementation, employer check-ins, and insurance requirements. Operations Management: Leads the daily operations of the CDPPO regarding staffing and resources allocated to achieve the services offered in counselling, recruiting initiatives, weekly programming and events,
and all other activities. Leads the development and implementation of the CDPPO’s annual recruiting/placement event calendar and programming of major on-campus recruiting initiatives. Career Counselling: Manages the delivery of career and education counselling and employment guidance to all J.D. students, including advising online and in-person, in groups and/or one-on-one settings regarding professional placement opportunities, judicial clerkships, career goals, planning and acquiring qualified skills. Provides one-on-one coaching and support for law students including application review, career path counselling, mock interviews and on-campus and off-campus hiring support. Relationship and Stakeholder Development: Solicits and fosters strong relationships with various prominent employers across Canada. Manages relationship-building activities such as Career Days and Public Interest Day in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, and internationally. Data Analysis and Reporting: Oversees statistical monitoring and analysis of student data, including class demographics, recruitment statistics and professional placement data for internal and external use, including LSO and IPC reporting. HR Management: Manages and supervises staff, assigns and prioritizes tasks, establishes goals, sets expectations and evaluates performance. Hires, trains, develops and manages staff. Monitors performance and provides feedback. Conducts disciplinary action and makes termination recommendations when appropriate. A minimum of 3 years of relevant work experience in a legal or law-related environment, including: Experience supervising employees and project management. Experience in public relations and networking/relationship building. Experience in career counselling and professional development counselling. Experience developing, interpreting, explaining and applying policies, procedures and equity principles in an educational setting. Experience designing, preparing and delivering public presentations; administrative writing and reviewing. Excellent knowledge of the legal career job market and diversity of legal career options; knowledge of recruitment ethical principles. Knowledge of regulatory requirements of bar associations and law societies nationally and internationally. Knowledge of access and equity principles. Ability to work with attention to detail in a high-interruption environment. Strong organizational, time management, multitasking, and deadline skills. Proficiency with computer systems, software and databases. Strong interpersonal, relationship-building, teamwork and customer service skills; tact and diplomacy. Excellent oral and written communication, listening, coaching and presentation skills. Strong analytical, research, data mining, problem solving and project management skills.
