Key Responsibilities Active Floor Work: Perform primary sorting duties directly on the line to lead by example and maintain workflow.
Equipment Operation: Safely start, stop, operate, and adjust recycling machinery throughout shift operations.
Quality Assurance: Ensure all sorting staff strictly follow company guidelines for material separation and quality standards.
Operational Communication: Keep management informed of material changes, line flow variations, and any personnel matters on the floor.
Acting Supervisory Coverage Shift Oversight: Step in to manage daily floor operations, workflow, and team assignments whenever the Supervisor is unavailable or off-site.
Point of Contact: Serve as the primary leader for operational inquiries, emergency protocol decisions, and shift escalation issues.
Shift Reporting: Complete accurate end-of-shift reports, verify timekeeping, and track production metrics during coverage periods.
Team Leadership & Staffing Shift Readiness: Confirm adequate sorter coverage prior to shift start times to maintain quality and throughput.
Training & Development: Train new material sorters, continuously evaluate team productivity, and request staffing adjustments as needed.
Safety & Compliance Safety Standards: Drive a safety-first culture by enforcing all policies outlined in the company's safety program.
LOTO Protocol: Strictly adhere to and enforce Lock Out / Tag Out (LOTO) procedures.
PPE Management: Ensure all floor staff properly sign out and consistently wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).




Requirements & Qualifications Education & Experience Education: High school diploma required, post-secondary is an asset
Leadership Experience: Prior experience as an acting supervisor, step-up lead, or senior line worker preferred.
Industry Experience: Previous experience operating recycling machinery strongly desired.
Certifications: Forklift certification required, or willingness to obtain.
Knowledge, Skills, & Physical Demands Leadership & Autonomy: Robust initiative with the ability to manage floor operations independently with minimal supervision.
Communication: Clear written and verbal communication skills to interact effectively with staff and management.
Technical Skill: Demonstrated ability to safely operate facility machinery.
Physical Capabilities: Ability to frequently lift and move up to 60 lbs in a fast-paced industrial environment.
