Position Summary
The Materials Planning Specialist is responsible for planning and managing material requirements to support production schedules, ensuring optimal inventory levels while minimizing carrying costs and preventing material shortages.
Key Responsibilities
Develop and maintain material requirements planning (MRP) for production schedules
Analyze demand forecasts and production plans to determine material needs
Generate and release purchase requisitions and work orders for materials
Monitor inventory levels and establish reorder points and safety stock levels
Coordinate with suppliers and purchasing to ensure timely material delivery
Resolve material shortage issues and expedite critical items
Manage slow-moving and obsolete inventory
Collaborate with production, engineering, and quality teams on material specifications
Conduct analysis to optimize inventory investment and turnover
Maintain accurate bill of materials (BOM) and routing information
Track supplier performance metrics including on-time delivery and quality
Participate in new product introduction and material qualification processes
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Business, or related field preferred
3-5 years of materials planning or supply chain experience
Strong proficiency with ERP/MRP systems (SAP, Oracle, or similar)
Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail
Knowledge of inventory management principles and lean manufacturing concepts
Strong Excel skills including pivot tables, VLOOKUP, and data analysis
APICS certification (CPIM or CSCP) preferred
Excellent communication and negotiation skills
Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
[Compensation Range: $33.00 - 43.00/hr CAD]
