About the Role Northwest Hydraulic Consultants (NHC) is an independent, employee-owned engineering and geoscience firm focused on solving water resource challenges around the world. As a specialist firm, we have attracted and retained many of the top water resource professionals, forming and maintaining a hydrotechnical centre of excellence. If you are excited to work within the largest collection of water resource experts in Western Canada (120 in BC) and you meet the below expectations.
We are currently seeking hydrometric technologists with strong skills in year-round field work, hydrometrics, surveying, and data processing to participate in our river engineering, hydrology, and geomorphology projects. We have two positions available: one based in our North Vancouver office, and one based in our Kamloops office, but project work will be throughout BC.
About the Role Key responsibilities will include
Hydrometric and meteorological monitoring Site, design, install, maintain and operate hydrometric and meteorological monitoring stations
Collect flow measurements (ADCP, ADV, and salt dilution)
Collect water quality measurements and samples
Familiarity with industry standards (Manual of BC Hydrometric Standards, World Meteorological Organization, etc.)
Familiarity with corrective and preventative maintenance activities
Adherence to standard operating procedures

Instrumentation Maintenance, repair, troubleshooting, validation and calibration of environmental instrumentation
Datalogger configuration
Telemetry systems (satellite, cellular,



radio and internet protocols)

Surveying Differential levelling
Total station
GPS (static, RTK and DGPS)
Hydrographic

Data management Familiarity with time-series software, such as Aquatic Informatics AQUARIUS
Adherence to Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QA/QC) procedures
Data validation and data grading
Data reporting

The successful candidate will
be self-motivated with a demonstrated ability to work safely outdoors.
be physically able to lift and carry equipment, supplies, and other items weighing up to 50 lbs.
be able to comfortably able to swim 50 metres, and work in and around water.
be invested in overseeing the maintenance of field equipment, fleet vehicles and inventories
have a commitment to high quality, client service.
have excellent communication and organizational skills.
be available to travel throughout BC and Alberta and work outdoors in sometimes challenging and remote locations.
be comfortable working in challenging, remote locations.
be able to work overtime and extended shifts away from home when required.
Previous experience with rope work, water sports, hiking and/or snow sports would be beneficial.

Salary: $65,000 – $80,000 (plus benefits) Salary will be determined based on experience and qualifications.
