Scale Attendant Job Description Our client is looking for a talented and driven Scale Attendant to join their team.
Under the direction of the General Manager, the Scale Attendant is responsible for managing inbound and outbound traffic by conducting weight readings and inputting the required data into the scaling system.
The role also provides clear direction to operations staff, truck drivers, and other guests, while completing administrative duties that support daily operations, including answering calls, responding to emails, and preparing various documents.
Location: Finch and Keele Compensation: $ - $ an hour Type: Contract - Parental leave until February 7 Start Date: ASAP Shift/Hours: the schedule is alternating weeks.

OVERVIEW The successful candidate must be comfortable operating scales to weigh incoming and outgoing vehicles for either delivery or pickup of scrap materials.
The Scale Attendant is expected to learn and assist with several aspects of daily operations, including conducting readings of incoming and outgoing truck weights, performing inspections of industrial and radiation detectors, greeting customers, drivers, and contractors, processing scale payments, and maintaining regular radio contact with yard metal inspectors and the operations team. RESPONSIBILITIES & ACCOUNTABILITIES Operate scales to weigh incoming and outgoing vehicles for delivery or pickup of scrap materials.
Regularly communicate with other scale operators and the operations team to assist with vehicle traffic in the yard.
Work with other staff members as needed via phone, email, in-person, and radio communications.
Greet customers and truck drivers in a friendly and professional manner and provide tickets or other documentation required for logs.
Perform pre-start inspections of industrial and radiation detectors.
Provide clear directions to truck drivers and other guests.
Print and distribute scale tickets as required.
Process scale payments.
Issue cash payments for customers requiring immediate payment.
Handle difficult customer situations effectively and professionally.
Manage phones and emails and assist with customer inquiries.
Verify receipts of supplies against packing slips and purchase orders.
Maintain the work area by processing and filing paperwork neatly and keeping the scale house clean and orderly.
Complete daily cash reconciliation,
review ticket purchases, and perform daily cash counts.
Perform other duties as required, not limited to those listed above. QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE High school diploma (SSGD) or equivalent is required.
Prior experience in reception, office administration, customer service, or dispatching is an asset.
Knowledge of metal is an asset.
Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook is required.
Ability to read, write, comprehend, and communicate effectively in English.
Ability to perform basic mathematical functions including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
Self-reliant with the ability to follow through on assignments.
