The Substation Studies Engineer is responsible for performing power system analyses to support the planning, design, operation, and expansion of transmission and distribution substations.

As a substation studies engineer, you will develop and validate system models, performs technical studies, evaluates equipment performance, and provides recommendations to ensure reliable and compliant operation of the power system and substation design.

The successful candidate shall demonstrate related experience and technical knowledge in power system modeling and analysis through past experience with consulting engineering firms, developers and/or utilities.

Key Responsibilities
* Perform power system studies including, but not limited to, load flow, short-circuit, insulation coordination (including switching and lightning, GIS Transient overvoltage analyses), temporary overvoltage (TOV), arc flash, grounding, and protection coordination studies.
* Develop and review power system models and conduct analyses to support the planning, design, operation, and expansion of transmission and distribution substations.
* Support substation design and engineering projects by establishing, reviewing, and validating equipment ratings, specifications, and technical requirements.
* Prepare technical reports and present study results to internal and external stakeholders.
* Support system studies project(s) throughout the whole lifecycle (i.e. from the technical bid/proposal to execution, reports, client meetings/presentations, to close-out).
* Work closely with the team members across North America and globally.

* Bachelor’s or master’s degree in electrical engineering, from a recognized institution.
* Minimum 4 years of direct experience with power system studies.
* Experience with power system studies using ETAP, SKM and PSCAD or other equivalents.
* Knowledge of applicable industry standards such as IEC, IEEE and CIGRE.
* Exceptional problem-solving and analytical capabilities with a focus on achieving results.
* Team player with great interpersonal, communication and presentation skills.
* Ability and willingness to travel within North America.

Ideally, You’ll Also Have
* Knowledge of programming languages to streamline studies using Python.
* Professional Engineer (PE or PEng) License or eligibility to obtain.
