EMCS Industries has designed and manufactured Marine Growth Prevention Systems (MGPS) since 1955. Under our MARELCO brand, we provide protection against marine biofouling to vessels around the world.

The Role

We're looking for a hands-on Production Manager to take responsibility and accountability for our production team, manufacturing processes, inventory, and day-to-day shop operations.

You will own the day-to-day production and shipping operation and help build the inventory and production systems that will carry EMCS through its next chapter. You'll report directly to the Director of Operations and work closely with Sales, Inventory, Purchasing, and other members of the team.

This is a builder's role in every sense. We run a fast-paced shop with a lean, just-in-time manufacturing model, so we need someone who can think quickly, move with urgency, and keep a sense of humour when things get busy.

You'll manage the operation, but there will also be times when you need to step in and work alongside the team on the shop floor. If you're as comfortable with a tool in your hand as you are managing a spreadsheet or negotiating with a supplier, you'll thrive here.

Key Responsibilities

Production Planning & Scheduling

- Manage daily production scheduling to ensure that all manufacturing processes are aligned to drive toward customer invoicing targets and meet delivery deadlines without compromising quality. We operate on a lean manufacturing basis, so it is all about timing material against production so that we hold only the stock we need to meet our production timeline.
- Develop and maintain daily, weekly, and monthly production schedules based on sales orders, demand forecasts, capacity, and material availability.
- Sequence work orders to optimize throughput, minimize bottlenecks, and support on-time delivery.
- Monitor WIP, finished goods, and production capacity to identify risks and constraints.
- Adjust schedules in response to equipment downtime, material shortages, quality issues, labour constraints, and other unplanned events.
- Communicate production priorities, schedule changes, and risks across the organization.
- Release and manage work orders using our production and inventory systems.
- Participate in daily and weekly production meetings.

Production & Team Management

- Provide day-to-day leadership and oversight of production staff and contractors.
- Establish transparent priorities and maintain accountability for production performance.
- Step in and assist on the shop floor when required, including cutting, drilling, assembly, and other production activities.
- Work with the Director of Operations to develop and maintain efficient, cost-effective manufacturing processes.
- In the future when we grow: recruit, train, supervise, mentor, and support the development of production personnel.

Inventory & Materials Management

- Maintain appropriate inventory levels to support production while minimizing excess stock.
- Monitor material availability and identify potential shortages before they impact production.
- Maintain accurate Bills of Material (BOMs), production inputs, and costing information.
- Ensure SOS Inventory and related production data remain accurate and up to date.
- Coordinate purchasing requirements with the Purchasing function to align material availability with production schedules.




- Support accurate product costing and pricing through reliable material and production data.

Supplier & Outsourced Manufacturing Management

- Source and evaluate suppliers and outsourced manufacturers.
- Negotiate to secure favourable pricing, terms, lead times, and delivery schedules.
- Develop and maintain productive supplier relationships and maintain supplier accountability for quality, cost, and delivery. This would include any outsourced manufacturers.
- Budget Management: Monitor production costs and implement cost-saving measures to maintain profitability.

Quality, Safety & Equipment

- Oversee product inspections and quality control to ensure MARELCO™ products meet established standards.
- Participate as a member of the Health & Safety Committee/Board and contribute to workplace safety initiatives, inspections, training, and continuous improvement.
- Maintain a safe working environment and ensure compliance with applicable safety requirements.
- Coordinate preventative maintenance and repair of production equipment to minimize downtime.
- Monitor equipment condition and obsolescence and recommend upgrades or replacement where required.
- Ensure equipment documentation, inspections, and maintenance schedules support WorkSafe and other regulatory requirements.

Shipping & Receiving

- Oversee shipping and receiving activities for customer orders, materials, and supplies.
- Coordinate with logistics providers to ensure shipments are arranged, tracked, and delivered as required.
- Ensure production and shipping priorities remain aligned with customer commitments.

Continuous Improvement

- Identify opportunities to improve production efficiency, planning accuracy, lead times, inventory control, and system data quality.
- Support the development and implementation of lean and just-in-time manufacturing practices.
- Work with the Director of Operations to improve manufacturing and inventory processes.
- Help build scalable production systems and processes to support EMCS's continued growth.

Performance Monitoring & Continuous Improvement

Track and report on key production and planning metrics, including:

- Schedule adherence
- On-time delivery (OTD)
- Plan vs. actual performance
- Throughput and cycle time
- Inventory accuracy and availability
- Production constraints and bottlenecks
- Opportunities to improve lead times, planning accuracy, and system data quality

Education & Experience

- Post-secondary education in manufacturing, operations, engineering, or a related field is preferred.
- 2+ years of experience in production planning, scheduling, or manufacturing operations.
- Proven experience managing production in a manufacturing environment.
- Hands-on experience managing inventory, materials, BOMs, and production inputs.
- Experience with lean and/or just-in-time manufacturing methods.
- Project management experience is an asset
- Strong working knowledge of inventory or ERP systems; experience with SOS Inventory is an asset.
- Advanced Excel and data analysis skills is an asset.
- Machining experience, including cutting, drilling, and assembly.
- Basic electrical experience, including wiring; electrical certification is not required.
- Experience with marine or industrial products is an asset.
- Experience with supplier management, purchasing, and negotiation.




- Experience with formal OH&S; requirements and workplace safety programs.
- Experience supporting customer issues and resolving operational problems is an asset.
- Familiarity with QuickBooks is an asset
- First Aid Training

Working Conditions

- 100% on-site role at our manufacturing facility.
- Regularly required to stand, walk, and work in production areas.
- Must be comfortable working around manufacturing equipment and performing hands-on production tasks when required.
- Overtime may occasionally be required based on production demands.
- Willingness to travel locally to suppliers as business needs require.

Additional Information

This position is currently based at our manufacturing facility in North Saanich, British Columbia. But we anticipate relocating to Langford, BC within the next 12 months.

Compensation:

$70,000–$85,000 CAD per year
