Position Summary

The Maintenance Worker is responsible for performing a variety of work including the maintenance and repair of buildings and grounds in assigned area(s). Essential functions and responsibilities of the position may vary by Aramark location based on client requirements and business needs.

Essential Functions

Key Responsibilities

Corrective Maintenance & Repairs

- Respond to and complete corrective maintenance work orders related to building systems, equipment, furnishings, and resident support areas through the computerized maintenance management system (FacilityFitPro™).
- Conduct troubleshooting and repairs of non-specialized building systems and equipment to restore functionality and minimize operational disruptions.
- Perform minor repairs including:
- Plumbing leaks and blockages
- Resident television/cable issues
- Non-medical bed repairs
- Hardware replacement and component changes
- Basic carpentry and assembly tasks
- Assess maintenance requests and coordinate with approved third-party contractors or licensed trades when specialized expertise is required

Building Operations & Preventative Activities

- Complete daily building and plant rounds, documenting deficiencies and identifying opportunities for corrective action.
- Conduct daily water temperature monitoring and maintain required records.
- Monitor Building Automation Systems (BAS) and report HVAC-related issues to contracted service providers.
- Provide first-level response to heating and cooling concerns raised by residents, staff, or site management.
- Investigate and safely reset electrical breakers (up to 60 AMP, 240V) where appropriate.
- Reset doors, alarms, and building systems when safe and authorized to do so.




- Maintain access to rooftop mechanical spaces and perform inspections on approved flat roof areas.

Life Safety Systems & Regulatory Compliance

- Perform and document required life safety inspections and preventative maintenance activities where specialized trades are not required, including:
- Fire extinguishers
- Fire blankets
- Emergency lighting
- Eyewash stations
- Emergency generator checks
- Weekly emergency power testing
- Coordinate and schedule inspections, testing, and maintenance activities completed by qualified external vendors.
- Participate in fire drills, evacuation drills, and other emergency preparedness exercises.
- Maintain compliance with applicable health, safety, fire code, and long-term care regulatory requirements.

Asset Management & Documentation

- Utilize (CMMS) to receive, prioritize, document, and close maintenance work orders.
- Maintain accurate records of repairs, inspections, testing, and maintenance activities.
- Assist with asset inventory management, equipment tagging, and updating asset records within the CMMS.
- Support facility condition assessments and long-term capital planning initiatives by documenting asset deficiencies and repair history.

Emergency Response

- Participate in a rotating on-call schedule to provide emergency maintenance support as required.
- Serve as a first responder to emergency situations including:
- Floods
- Fire-related incidents




- Building system failures
- Other emergency codes identified within the Emergency Response Plan
- Support the safe operation of the facility during emergency events and coordinate external contractor response when necessary.

Installation & Assembly

- Assemble furniture and equipment and complete minor installations not requiring a certified trade.
- Install dispensers, shelving, brackets, and other fixtures within prescribed safety and weight-bearing limitations.
- Complete low-voltage connections (12V DC or less) where qualified and authorized.

Qualifications

- Grade 12 Diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum 2 years' experience in building maintenance, facility operations, healthcare, seniors living, hospitality, or commercial facilities.
- Demonstrated experience in plumbing, carpentry, electrical, drywall, painting, and general building maintenance.
- Experience working with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) preferred.
- Working knowledge of life safety systems, fire safety requirements, and preventative maintenance programs.
- Ability to read technical manuals and follow safe work procedures.
- Ability to work independently and prioritize multiple maintenance requests.
- Valid driver's license may be required for travel between facilities.
- Physical ability to lift, carry, climb ladders, work at heights (where permitted), and perform manual labour tasks.
- WHMIS training required; First Aid/CPR, TDG, and healthcare maintenance experience considered assets
