Fort William Historical Park is one of the largest living-history attractions in North America. The Park offers cultural, heritage, educational, and entertainment experiences to residents and visitors in Northwestern Ontario and operates year-round, 24 hours a day.

We are currently seeking an enthusiastic and reliable Cleaner / Caretaker (Seasonal) to support the upkeep and daily operation of Fort William Historical Park. This role plays an important part in ensuring our facilities are welcoming, safe, and ready for visitors, staff, and special events.

This is a hands-on, varied position that combines cleaning, caretaking, customer service, and facility support duties. You will work both independently and as part of a team.

Please note: This position may involve working evenings, weekends, holidays, overnight functions, and occasional travel to off-site or out-of-town events.

About the job

In this role, you will:

- Clean and maintain public, historic, and modern facilities (including washrooms, floors, windows, and visitor areas)
- Prepare facilities and equipment for daily operations, rentals, and special events
- Open, secure, and monitor facilities, including basic gatekeeping duties
- Assist with event and program set-up and tear-down
- Operate and care for cleaning tools and equipment (e.g., floor scrubbers, vacuums)
- Support visitor services by providing general information and directions
- Provide back-up support for admissions and reservations when required, including check-in/check-out and basic data entry
- Operate visitor transportation vehicles such as vans, buses, or electric carts, when needed
- Monitor safety conditions and report issues; follow fire, security, and health and safety procedures
- Complete basic records such as cleaning schedules, supply usage, and incident reports

What you bring to the team

Mandatory requirements

- the position requires the successful candidate to have a valid class G driver's license or equivalent. The offer of employment is conditional on the successful candidate providing proof that they have a valid driver's license before being hired.
- you have a valid class CZ driver's licence or the ability to obtain one
- you have a valid Forklift operators licence or the ability to obtain one

Knowledge and experience

You have:

- experience performing cleaning or caretaking duties in public,



hospitality, or similar environments
- knowledge of cleaning methods, materials, and protected use of equipment
- understanding of health and safety practices, including WHMIS and safe handling of cleaning products
- basic computer skills for data entry, scheduling, and reporting

Customer service, communication and interpersonal skills

You can:

- provide services and information to clients and visitors with a positive, friendly and courteous attitude
- document attendance and events, and maintain records for supply usage
- understand customer service procedures related to check in and check out

Computer skills

You can

- set up audio and visual equipment
- have basic computer skills to enter and retrieve data, and use word processing and spreadsheet applications

Other key skills

You can:

- drive passenger vans, buses and/or electric-powered vehicles
- perform security functions, such as opening and locking up of facilities, gatekeeping, setting and monitoring intrusion and fire alarm systems
