Key Responsibilities
- Ensuring that the cows are milked out properly and thoroughly.
- Operate basic farm equipment and tools as required
- Follow safety protocols and farm procedures.
- Work both independently and as part of a team to complete assigned tasks.
- Availability to work shifts, including weekends and statutory holidays.
- Carry out daily operations including milking, breeding, calving, calf care, and assisting/directing students as scheduled by
the Dairy Unit Supervisor
- Operate and maintain milking equipment, ensuring proper startup, sanitation, and complete milking of cows
- Tag, process, and provide care for calves; administer treatments or medications as required
- Maintain accurate animal records including breeding dates, pregnancy results, vaccinations, heat detection, and calving
information
- Follow the Dairy Learning Centre’s cleaning schedule to ensure the facility is presentable for visitors and prospective
students
- Assist with maintenance of waterers, manure handling systems, feed bunks, feeders, parlors, and other equipment to
- ensure animal welfare and operational efficiency
- Support farm technicians with bedding, livestock movement, treatments, and other farm-related tasks as needed
Job Requirements
- Valid Class 5 Driver’s License
- Ability to communicate effectively and work well both independently and in a team setting
- Strong attention to detail and willingness to learn
- Post-secondary agriculture related education, preferably Diploma in Animal Science
- Demonstrated passion for the Western Canadian dairy industry, as well as dairy experience and knowledge of farm
- equipment operation and new technology is highly desirable
- Manual labour and shift work in various weather conditions
- Ability to perform artificial insemination would be an asset
Additional Information
This employment opportunity is a Full-Time AUPE position at the Vermilion Campus commencing as soon as possible. Lakeland College offers a market-competitive salary of $53,255 to $67,112 per annum and a comprehensive benefits plan. The selected candidate's salary will align with their education and relevant experience.
