Two Tenure-Track Assistant Professor Positions (Francophone stream)

The School of Social Work in the Faculty of Education and Health at Laurentian University in Sudbury
invites applications from suitably qualified candidates for two tenure-track faculty positions at the rank
of Assistant Professor in Social Work. The preferred start date is July 1, 2027.

Preferred candidates will hold a doctoral degree in social work or a related discipline, with at least one
degree in social work. Candidates who are currently completing their doctoral studies and who possess
strong professional experience will also be considered. Successful candidates must demonstrate an
active research program, excellence in teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels (on campus
and/or online), the ability to supervise master’s research projects or specialized practicum placements,
and a capacity to contribute to the governance of the School and the University as a whole.

The successful candidates will have the following essential qualifications:

- Show academic and professional expertise in one or more of the following areas: direct practice

in clinical social work, intervention methodologies with individuals and/or groups, work with
Indigenous communities, health-related fields, social policies, gérontologie, or community
practice.

- Experience in teaching in French at the undergraduate and graduate levels (on campus and/or

online).
- Have experience mentoring and supporting graduate students, with the ability to supervise

master’s research projects or specialized practicum placements.
- Experience working collaboratively in an setting that promotes teamwork and contributes

to the governance of the school and the university as a whole.
- A clear commitment to pedagogical and academic excellence, to fostering a safe, inclusive, and

welcoming learning environment, and to supporting the bilingual and tricultural mandates of
Laurentian University.

- The ability and willingness to understand and actively contribute to social work education

adapted to the realities of francophones living in minority settings, with particular attention to
the needs and challenges of the Franco-Ontarian community.

- The capacity and commitment to engage in dismantling anti-Indigenous and anti-Black racism, as





well as other oppressive practices that contribute to social and health inequities.

Laurentian University, located on Atikameksheng Anishnawbek territory in Sudbury, Ontario, serves over

teaching evaluation reports from the last 5 years (if applicable), and any other relevant document

- A statement of current and prospective research interests
- The names and contact information for three academic references
- For candidates who have not yet completed their doctoral degree: a letter from their thesis

supervisor indicating their progress toward completion, including the number of chapters written
and the anticipated submission date in preparation for the defence.

rank of Assistant Professor is set at $ 89, 914.52, with additional increments awarded for relevant

experience in accordance with the Laurentian University Faculty Association Collective Agreement.
