We’re looking for two to four Community Companions & Mentors to join our family directed support team.

Whether you’re looking for one shift a week or a longer-term role with more hours, we’d still encourage you to apply. We’re building a team, not just filling positions.

Depending on your interests, strengths, personality, and availability, you may be matched with either of the two autistic adults we support. Our goal isn’t simply to fill shifts, it’s to find the right fit for everyone because we believe the best relationships are built on compatibility, trust, and time.

Who You’ll Get to Know

You’ll be getting to know two autistic adults, each with their own unique personality, interests, strengths, routines, and preferences. Both have wonderful senses of humour, curious minds, and genuinely enjoy being out in the community with people who like to participate, laugh, explore, and experience life alongside them.

Between them, favourite activities include:

· Swimming and spending time near the water

· Boating and paddle boating

· Trains, trucks, cars, and heavy equipment

· Construction sites and engineering

· Baseball games

· Movies and music

· Museums

· Coffee shops and restaurants

· Exploring neighbourhoods, parks, and communities throughout Metro Vancouver

· Riding transit and discovering new places

· Trying new experiences

Some days you’ll revisit favourite places., Some days you’ll discover somewhere completely unexpected. The destination matters.The relationship matters even more.

You’ll be swimming, climbing into paddle boats, exploring parks, visiting museums, riding transit, attending community events, cheering at baseball games, discovering hidden gems around Metro Vancouver, and saying “yes” to new adventures.

We’re looking for people who enjoy participating. Not supervising.

Joining in. Not standing back.

Being physically active isn’t simply a requirement of the role. sIt’s part of how relationships are built.

Swimming is a favourite activity, so you must be comfortable in the water and able to swim confidently.

If your idea of a great day is coming home with tired legs, a smile on your face, and a few excellent stories to tell, you’ll probably love being part of our team.

Communication Is About Connection

Every relationship begins with communication.

We’ll provide training, mentorship,



and ongoing support to help you learn each person’s unique communication style and preferences.

What matters most isn’t previous experience.

It’s your willingness to listen, stay curious, presume competence, and adapt your communication to meet the needs of the people you support.

Strong spoken English communication skills are essential because much of this role involves building relationships through conversation, shared experiences, careful listening, and mutual understanding.

Communication isn’t simply about words. It’s about building trust, understanding, and connection.

Bring Your Curiosity

Maybe you’ve worked as a support worker. Maybe you’re an educational assistant, recreation leader, coach, lifeguard, teacher, youth worker, hospitality professional, or your experience comes from somewhere completely different.

We’re much more interested in your character than your job title.

Bring your interests. Bring your ideas. Bring your hobbies. Bring your sense of adventure. Know a great museum; let’s go. Found an interesting community event; wonderful.

Love photography, music, history, sports, nature, boats, transit, or simply exploring somewhere new; bring those passions with you.

What You’ll Need

· A Class 5 BC Driver’s License and a safe driving record; access to a reliable vehicle is an asset

· Confidence in the water and the ability to swim is essential

· Current First Aid & CPR certification (or willingness to obtain prior to starting)

· A Criminal Record Check

· Excellent spoken and written English communication skills

· A willingness to learn and adapt your communication style to meet individual needs

· Flexibility to work some evenings and weekends

Most importantly, we’re looking for people who value kindness, humility, reliability, enthusiasm, curiosity, and building genuine relationships.

We’re not looking for someone to fill a shift. We’re looking for someone to become an important part of another person’s life. Someone who understands that trust takes time. Someone who celebrates progress, enjoys learning, laughs often, and believes relationships are worth investing in.

Years from now, you probably won’t remember every museum you visited, every paddle boat ride, every baseball game, or every trail you explored. You’ll remember the relationships you built.
