GENERAL DESCRIPTION

Under the general direction of the Procurement Manager, the Supply Chain & Logistics Coordinator is responsible for managing and optimizing inbound and outbound transportation activities across Nature's Pride Nutrition, Excel Feeds, and Clearbrook Grain & Milling. This position is accountable for coordinating and tracking freight movements by truck, rail, ocean, and intermodal transportation to ensure products are delivered safely, on time, and at the most cost-effective rate.

The Supply Chain & Logistics Coordinator collaborates closely with Procurement, Operations, Production, Sales, Suppliers, and Carriers to maintain reliable supply chain performance while identifying opportunities for cost savings, service improvements, transportation efficiencies, and improved utilization of company transportation assets. This role utilizes data analytics, reporting tools, and emerging AI technologies to improve decision-making, optimize freight planning, and support continuous improvement initiatives.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES

- Follow all company policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
- Maintain a professional and positive image of the company.
- Work collaboratively with internal departments, suppliers, customers, and transportation providers.
- Support company objectives related to safety, quality, service, cost control, and continuous improvement.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

- Coordinate and monitor inbound shipments of bulk commodities and packaged goods across all facilities.
- Schedule and manage inbound transportation by:
- - Full Truckload (FTL)
- Less Than Truckload (LTL)
- Rail
- Intermodal
- Ocean Containers
- Bulk Tankers.

- Track shipments from origin to destination and proactively communicate delays or service disruptions.
- Coordinate delivery appointments with receiving departments.
- Ensure carriers, suppliers, Operations, Production, and mills are aligned on timing, quantities, and delivery requirements.
- Monitor shipment status daily and provide updates to stakeholders.
- Resolve transportation issues including delays, shortages, damages, and missed deliveries.
- Maintain freight records, bills of lading, rail documents, container information, and shipment tracking data.

Rail and Intermodal Coordination

- Coordinate railcar movements and carrier communications.
- Monitor railcar cycle times and identify demurrage reduction opportunities.
- Coordinate intermodal container shipments from ports to destination facilities.
- Track arrivals and proactively manage potential service interruptions.
- Work with operations and production to ensure timely unloading and return of equipment to avoid detention and demurrage charges.

Ocean Freight Coordination

- Track ocean shipments from overseas suppliers through arrival at destination.
- Coordinate with customs brokers, freight forwarders, ports, drayage providers, and carriers.
- Monitor vessel schedules and container movements.
- Ensure import documentation is complete and submitted on time.
- Support customs clearance activities as required.
- Identify opportunities to improve transit times and reduce landed freight costs.

Outbound Logistics Management

- Coordinate outbound shipments of feed products, ingredients, and commodities as required.
- Schedule transportation with carriers,



company-owned trucks, and customers.
- Ensure customer delivery requirements are met.
- Assist Sales and Customer Service teams with freight planning and delivery scheduling.
- Monitor freight costs and service performance.
- Support shipment documentation requirements.
- Identify opportunities to improve utilization of company-owned trucks and transportation assets while balancing the use of third-party carriers.

Transportation Planning and Optimization

- Develop and maintain transportation schedules that support production requirements and inventory targets.
- - Collaborate with Procurement to ensure transportation capacity is secured for incoming ingredients.
- Work closely with Operations and Production teams to understand upcoming demand requirements, production schedules, inventory levels, and transportation constraints.
- Support contingency planning during supply chain disruptions.
- Identify and implement opportunities to improve freight utilization and reduce transportation costs.
- Optimize utilization of company-owned trucks and transportation assets across all facilities.
- Develop recommendations to reduce empty miles, improve trailer utilization, increase truck utilization, and lower transportation costs.
- Collaborate with Operations and Production teams to ensure inbound ingredient deliveries and outbound shipments align with manufacturing schedules.

Carrier Management

- Build and maintain strong working relationships with transportation providers.
- Obtain freight rates and evaluate service offerings.
- Track carrier performance using key service metrics.
- Maintain carrier contact database and transportation records.
- Support freight contract negotiations and annual carrier reviews.
- Monitor carrier compliance with company safety and service expectations.

Reporting, Analytics & Technology

- Maintain logistics dashboards and transportation performance metrics.
- Analyze:
- Freight costs
- Freight spend by mode
- Carrier performance
- On-time delivery performance
- Demurrage costs
- Detention costs
- Transit times
- Truck utilization
- Internal truck utilization
- Generate reports and recommendations for management.
- Identify trends and develop actionable cost-saving initiatives.
- Develop and maintain transportation scorecards and KPI dashboards.
- Analyze transportation, inventory, production, and procurement data to identify opportunities for optimization and cost reduction.
- Utilize advanced Excel, Power Query, Power BI, or similar tools to improve reporting and business visibility.
- Leverage AI-powered tools to improve freight planning, reporting efficiency, forecasting, data analysis, and operational decision-making.

Continuous Improvement

- Identify opportunities to improve supply chain efficiency and service reliability.
- Lead or participate in logistics improvement projects.
- Develop standard operating procedures and transportation best practices.




- Support inventory accuracy initiatives by improving shipment tracking and visibility.
- Assist with implementation of transportation technology, automation, AI tools, and reporting systems.
- Support initiatives focused on transportation optimization, inventory management, and operational efficiency improvements.

Receiving & Inventory Accuracy

- Ensure inventory transactions are accurate and timely, maintaining high system integrity to support planning and financial reporting.
- Flag, document, and escalate quantity variances, damage, and missing or incomplete documentation.
- Partner with procurement, warehouse, and logistics to resolve receipt issues and keep replenishment timing accurate.
- Participate in scheduled monthly inventory counts across facilities, ensuring count procedures are followed accurately and consistently.

WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

- Minimum 3-5 years of experience in logistics, transportation, supply chain, procurement, or freight coordination.
- Experience managing multiple transportation modes preferred.
- Feed, agriculture, grain, commodity, manufacturing, or food industry experience considered a strong asset.
- Experience coordinating bulk commodity shipments preferred.
- Experience working closely with Operations and Production teams in a manufacturing setting preferred.
- Experience using advanced Excel, Power BI, business intelligence, or other data analytics tools preferred.
- Experience using AI-assisted tools for reporting, analysis, process improvement, or operational decision support considered an asset.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

Diploma or Degree in:

- Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Transportation Management, Business Administration, or a related field preferred.
- An equivalent combination of education and relevant industry experience will be considered, particularly in demand or material planning, inventory control, and ERP-based environments.
- SCMP, CITT, or other supply chain certifications are considered assets.

SKILLS REQUIRED

- Strong understanding of transportation and logistics operations.
- Knowledge of truck, rail, intermodal, and ocean freight movements.
- Excellent planning and scheduling abilities.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including Pivot Tables, Power Query, and data analysis.
- Experience with Power BI or similar business intelligence tools preferred.
- Experience with ERP systems and freight management software.
- Strong data analysis and data visualization capabilities.
- Ability to interpret transportation, operational, inventory, and financial data and convert findings into actionable recommendations.
- Understanding of AI technologies and their application within logistics, transportation planning, reporting, analytics, and process improvement.
- Exceptional organizational and communication skills.
- Ability to prioritize and manage multiple shipments simultaneously.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Self-motivated with a proactive approach to continuous improvement.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively across Procurement, Operations, Production, Sales, Finance, and Customer Service teams.
