Our Perioperative Department is staffed with qualified and experienced nursing and medical staff. The Perioperative Department is equipped to meet the needs of the diverse population from multiple local towns and communities. Staff have enhanced knowledge, experience and skills to provide care to surgical patients of all ages who require care before, during, and post-operative.

DUTIES

1. Participates in the active management of surgical patients in the following settings: pre

operative, intra-operative, and post-operative.

2. Engages in daily clinical area activities that contribute to overall quality of patient care.

3. Practices in accordance with the Standards for R.P.N.s set by the College of Nurses of Ontario and policies and procedures of WHGH

4. Performs R.P.N. basic skills and added nursing skills according to the policies and procedures at WHGH.

5. Seeks collaboration with RNs in patient situations that are beyond the scope of an RPN.

6. Demonstrates critical thinking and decision making in assessment and problem identification.

7. Demonstrates accountability for individual decisions and practice.

8. Maintains a safe environment.

9. Develops a collaborative working relationship within the peri-operative setting.

10. Communicates effectively with other members of the health care team and patients (i.e.



written, verbal and nonverbal) for the benefit of the patient, health care team and health care facility.

11. Exhibits knowledge and participation in safety programs and practice that protects the patient, self, and health care team members.

12. Other duties as assigned.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

1. Current Certificate of Competence with the College of Nurses as a Registered Practical Nurse

2. Current B.C.L.S. (Basic Cardiac Life Support)

3. Certificate in Peri-Operative Nursing Completed or in progress

4. Recent experience in the Operating Room and Endoscopy clinical areas within the last two years.

5. Completion of RNAO Best Practice Champion course, or in progress.

6. Demonstrated professional practice reflecting the CNO, ORNAC and CSGNA practice standards.

7. Demonstrated ability to work independently as well as part of a multidisciplinary team.

8. Demonstrated excellence in communication skills, interpersonal skills and problem solving.

9. Demonstrated leadership and organizational skills.

10. Excellent attendance record.

11. Proficiency with computer programs, software and documentation.
