Personal Support Worker - Kitchener, ON - CAD$567.00/week
Description
About the Client:
We're seeking a compassionate caregiver for a woman in her senior years living in Kitchener, Ontario, near the base of the escarpment. She was completely independent until recently but spent several weeks hospitalized due to diverticulitis requiring surgery. Prior to hospitalization, she had been struggling with proper nutrition and medication adherence while living alone, which contributed to her decline. She's now recovering at home and experiencing some cognitive changes, including memory difficulties and challenges following easy daily routines. While she can transfer independently and handle basic personal care like toileting, she needs supervision for safety and consistent support to rebuild her strength and establish healthy routines.
Responsibilities:
The caregiver will provide hands-on support with bathing assistance and light meal preparation, including reheating meals and providing reminders to eat and stay hydrated. Medication management is essential—she needs reminders and assistance to take her medications as prescribed. Daily walks are important for her recovery and mobility, so the caregiver should help her safely navigate stairs with her walker and accompany her on outdoor walks to rebuild strength. Light housekeeping duties include cleaning and laundry. The caregiver will also provide cognitive support through gentle prompts, redirection when needed, and supervision to ensure her safety throughout the day. Occasional transportation for errands or appointments may be required. The role focuses on helping her follow a structured daily routine while encouraging independence wherever possible.
What We're Looking For:
We need someone who is calm, patient, and brings positive energy to the home.
The ideal caregiver has experience with post-hospital recovery care, cognitive changes or memory support, and personal care assistance. They should be reliable, take initiative, communicate clearly with family members, and respect the client's independence while providing necessary support. English-speaking is required. The caregiver should be comfortable with mobility and transfer assistance, medication reminders, and light housekeeping. A valid driver's license for occasional transportation is preferred.
Schedule:
Care is needed seven days per week during the initial recovery period, with visits from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM daily. The schedule may adjust to three days per week as the client's condition improves and family circumstances change. Consistency and reliability are essential during this transitional period.
