JOB SUMMARY

The role of the Carpenter is to thoroughly know, invest in and maintain in good repair the numerous campus buildings and rental units of Briercrest College and Seminary. This position is a vital member of the Operations team who oversees all the facilities in our diverse and growing campus. As the carpenter on the team, you will use a broad skillset to repair, renovate and build to meet the needs of those who use our facilities. This will primarily involve a wide range of carpentry specific tasks as well as various other maintenance tasks. The carpenter is a part of an incredible team committed to serving the students, staff and mission of Briercrest.

This position is part of Campus Operations with the mission statement, “Campus Operations serves the Lord and our students by providing quality spaces that facilitate life opportunities for kingdom growth and spiritual and intellectual formation, and by helping others to utilize the facilities efficiently.”

SCHEDULE AND HOURS

- Regular hours of work will be Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm with a one hour break for lunch.

QUALIFICATIONS

- Interprovincial Carpentry Journeyman License is a valuable asset
- A solid understanding of all carpentry practices and National Building Code requirements
- Extensive knowledge of power and hand tools
- General maintenance knowledge in other disciplines is an asset




- Basic knowledge of computers (email, Word, Excel)
- Ability to lift 35 kg
- Be a strong team player

DESIRED OUTCOMES AND ACTIVITIES

- Actively support and promote the Briercrest Family of Schools vision and mission
- Keep the institution’s buildings functional and in good repair by performing a variety of tasks that pertain to the trade of Carpentry work
- Perform regular preventative maintenance
- Complete all carpentry maintenance tickets within a reasonable time frame following standard safety practices at all times
- Continually seek avenues of improvement to all facilities as they relate to the carpentry area
- Manage carpentry shop inventory
- Keep carpentry tools in positive repair
- Help with workload in other areas as assigned by supervisor (eg. Other maintenance, Event preparations and tear downs)
- Follow any and all government regulations having jurisdiction in this work area
- Tasks will involve inside and outside work in all types of weather, and may also require emergency callout work when needed which will be compensated by 1.5 hours time in lieu
- Be a positive contributor to the maintenance team

TEAM RELATIONSHIP

- This position reports to the Director of Campus Operations or his designate
- This position is part of the Maintenance Department that belongs to the greater Operations Team which includes custodial, campus safety, and rental housing
