Assistant or Associate Professor of Teaching in Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering

The School of Engineering at the University of British Columbia’s Okanagan campus invites applications to fill one (1) full-time tenure-stream position within its Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering Programs. Applicants with expertise in educational leadership will be considered for the ranks of Assistant Professor of Teaching (tenure-track) or Associate Professor of Teaching (tenure-track or tenured). We welcome applicants with diverse backgrounds in mechanical and manufacturing engineering, particularly those with educational leadership and/or teaching expertise in areas including (but not limited to) engineering design; experiential, project-based, and laboratory-based learning; aerospace engineering; industrial systems; clean energy and sustainability; and inclusive engineering education. The anticipated start date is July 1, 2027 or a date to be mutually agreed upon.

Decisions for hiring will be based upon applicants' potential and/or evidence towards excellence in teaching and educational leadership, to the benefit of Canada and the global community, as well as their fit to the School. We look to shape leaders for the future of our programs and profession.

Eligibility and duties

Applicants must hold a doctoral (Ph.D.) degree in a field related to Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering and either be registered, or be eligible to register, as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) with Engineers and Geoscientists British Columbia (https://www.egbc.ca) within five (5) years of appointment. Ultimately, the successful applicant will be expected to contribute to educational leadership, teach at undergraduate and graduate levels, and provide service to the School, University, and greater community.

Appointment eligibility at each rank is defined as follows:

- Assistant Professor of Teaching: Appointment to this rank requires completion of academic (and/or qualified) qualifications, evidence of ability and commitment to teaching, and promise of educational leadership. Applicants having successfully defended their doctoral (Ph.D.) dissertation by the start of the appointment may be considered. The annual salary range is $120,000 - $140,000.
- Associate Professor of Teaching: Appointment at this rank requires evidence of excellence in teaching, demonstrated educational leadership, involvement in curriculum development and innovation, and other teaching and learning initiatives. It is expected that Associate Professors of Teaching will keep abreast of current developments in their disciplines, and in the field of teaching and learning. The annual salary range is $140,000 - $190,000.

The University of British Columbia's Okanagan campus is situated in Kelowna, British Columbia, on the ancestral, traditional, and unceded territory of the Syilx Okanagan people, who continue their stewardship to this day. Kelowna is surrounded by vineyards, lakes, forests, and mountains, making it a four-season playground for a variety of activities.
