Job Summary

The Manager of Finance leads the company’s financial management, reporting, planning, and control functions. This role provides strategic and operational oversight of accounting, budgeting, forecasting, cash flow, risk management, and business performance analysis.

Working closely with the President, VP, Operations, Department Managers, and Project Managers, the Manager of Finance supports the organization’s financial health, sustainable growth, profitability, and operational excellence. As a trusted business partner, this role provides actionable financial insights and recommendations to support informed decision-making across the company.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Leadership & Strategy

- Develop and implement financial strategies aligned with company objectives.
- Provide financial guidance to the executive team.
- Lead annual budgeting and strategic planning processes.
- Develop short and long-term financial forecasts.
- Identify opportunities to improve profitability and operational efficiency.
- Support business growth initiatives, acquisitions, and expansion opportunities.

Financial Reporting

- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
- Ensure timely and accurate financial reporting.
- Analyze financial performance and communicate results to leadership.
- Present key financial metrics and trends.
- Develop dashboards and management reports that support informed decision-making.

Project Financial Management

- Monitor project profitability and utilization rates.
- Analyze project costs, labour recoveries, and overhead allocation.
- Work with project managers to improve project margins.
- Review project budgets and forecasts.
- Support work-in-progress (WIP) reporting and revenue recognition processes.

Budgeting & Forecasting





- Lead annual budget development.
- Prepare rolling forecasts and cash flow projections.
- Monitor budget performance and investigate variances.
- Recommend corrective actions where necessary.

Cash Flow Management

- Manage cash flow, banking relationships, and financing arrangements.
- Monitor working capital requirements.
- Optimize collection processes and accounts receivable performance.
- Support capital investment decisions.

Risk Management

- Assess financial risks and develop mitigation strategies.
- Oversee insurance programs and business risk management initiatives.
- Ensure compliance with contractual and financial obligations.
- Maintain strong financial governance practices.

Leadership and Team Development

- Lead and mentor finance staff.
- Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
- Establish performance goals and development plans for team members.
- Support cross-functional collaboration throughout the organization.

Qualifications:

Education

- Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, commerce or related discipline
- CPA designation required

Experience

- 7+ years of progressive financial management experience
- Experience in engineering consulting, professional services, construction, architecture, or related industries preferred
- Experience managing project-based financial operations
- Demonstrated leadership experience managing finance personnel

Knowledge and Skills





- Strong understanding of financial planning and analysis.
- Knowledge of project accounting and revenue recognition.
- Advanced budgeting and forecasting capabilities.
- Experience with ERP, accounting, and project management software.
- Robust analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and presentation abilities.
- Advanced Excel and BI reporting skills.

In compliance with the B.C. Pay Transparency Act, the expected salary range for this position is between $110K - $135K*

- Most new team members join between the start and midpoint of the range, where you can contribute right away while continuing to grow in the role, and make an impact at Strata Engineering. This range reflects market alignment and the scope of the role. Individual pay is determined by your skills, experience, and level of responsibility.

This Role would be eligible for an annual performance bonus of 5-15% of annual salary
