Job Summary
We are looking for an experienced WordPress Full-Stack Developer to develop, maintain, and support custom WordPress websites.
This is primarily a development-focused role. You will work with designs provided by our design team and turn them into responsive, polished, and reliable WordPress websites.
The ideal candidate is a strong developer who also has a valuable eye for design, layout, typography, and color composition. You should be comfortable making minor visual and UX adjustments independently when needed, without requiring a designer for every small change.
We are looking for someone who understands WordPress beyond page builders and pre-built themes and is comfortable working directly with PHP, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, custom themes, and custom plugins.
Responsibilities
- Develop responsive WordPress websites from provided Figma designs.
- Build, modify, and maintain custom WordPress themes.
- Develop, modify, and troubleshoot custom WordPress plugins.
- Write clean and maintainable PHP, HTML5, CSS, and JavaScript.
- Accurately translate designs into polished, responsive web interfaces.
- Make sensible minor design adjustments involving spacing, layout, typography, colors, and responsive behaviour when required.
- Work with WordPress hooks, actions, filters, custom post types, taxonomies, metadata, and custom fields.
- Work with ACF and other commonly used WordPress development tools.
- Maintain and support existing custom-developed WordPress websites.
- Troubleshoot PHP, JavaScript, CSS, database, theme, and plugin issues.
- Perform WordPress core, theme,
and plugin updates and resolve compatibility issues.
- Optimize websites for performance, responsiveness, SEO, and accessibility.
- Work with forms, AJAX, REST APIs, and third-party integrations when required.
- Perform website migrations, backups, restores, and staging-to-production updates.
- Manage WordPress websites through cPanel, including files, databases, PHP settings, SSL, redirects, and cron jobs.
- Use WP-CLI and basic SSH commands when needed.
Required Qualifications
- 3+ years of professional WordPress development experience.
- Strong PHP development skills.
- Excellent knowledge of HTML5 and CSS3.
- Strong practical knowledge of JavaScript.
- Proven experience developing and maintaining custom WordPress themes and plugins.
- Strong understanding of WordPress architecture, templates, hooks, and APIs.
- Ability to accurately implement responsive websites from Figma designs.
- Strong visual judgment and attention to detail, particularly around layout, spacing, typography, and color.
- Ability to make minor design decisions and improvements independently while remaining consistent with the established visual style.
- Experience with MySQL/MariaDB.
- Experience managing WordPress websites through cPanel.
- Strong troubleshooting and debugging skills.
- Understanding of responsive design, browser compatibility, website performance, SEO, and accessibility.
- Ability to independently understand and modify an existing WordPress codebase.
- Familiarity with Docker and a practical understanding of containerized local development environments is a strong asset.
Preferred Experience
- Custom Elementor widgets
- REST API integrations
- Advanced Custom Fields (ACF)
- WooCommerce
- WP-CLI
- SCSS/SASS
- Basic Linux/SSH
Who We're Looking For
You should be comfortable receiving a completed design and independently turning it into a polished, production-ready WordPress website.
You should have enough visual judgment to recognize when something doesn't look right and make reasonable adjustments without requiring detailed direction for every spacing, sizing, color, or responsive-design decision.
You should also be able to open an unfamiliar custom theme or plugin, understand how it works, troubleshoot problems, and make changes without rebuilding everything from scratch.
This is not a page-builder position. Candidates whose WordPress experience is primarily limited to Elementor, Divi, WPBakery, installing themes, or configuring plugins will not be a positive fit.
Pay: $55,000.00-$65,000.00 per year
Ability to commute/relocate:
- Mississauga, ON L4W 5A8: reliably commute or plan to relocate before starting work (required)
Experience:
- custom WordPress plugins and themes development: 3 years (required)
- Figma: 2 years (preferred)
