AVSS is an aerospace company and is the world leader in guided and unguided parachute recovery systems for commercial drones.

With rapid growth with commercial and military customers, AVSS is looking for a Senior Embedded Systems Engineer/Firmware Developer with a primary focus on assisting the team with the development of low level firmware and application code for integration of our products into various types of commercial drones.

The company is looking for an individual that has more than 5 years of relevant experience in embedded firmware development.

We are looking for a candidate who has been a part of a company that has commercialized and manufactured commercial hardware, aerospace and/or IoT products.

Responsibilities and Duties

- Develop embedded firmware for ARM microcontrollers.
- Own embedded firmware applications from end-to-end, including system architecture, integration, code development, and documentation.
- Develop low level drivers for sensors and other peripherals.
- Develop and integrate APIs into firmware application code.
- Verify the reliability, quality, and performance of the firmware.
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex software/hardware problems in the current firmware.
- Design and implement communication interfaces between different components.
- Building and reviewing technical specifications for aerospace-grade products.
- Assist team members with testing and meeting specifications.
- Work closely with the engineering and sales development team to review requirements and define estimates and plans.




- Ensure the development process is constantly improving as the company scales.
- Make sure all technical aspects are transparent to the rest of the company.

Qualifications and Skills

Need to have:

- Experience in firmware development with CC++.
- General proficiency in Python.
- Experience with attitude estimation and control
- Demonstrated knowledge of Cortex-M microprocessor families.
- Experience in integrating sensor drivers and external modules such as IMU, Barometer, GPS, WiFi modules, etc.
- Experience in working with STM peripherals using HAL and LL.
- Experience in using communication protocols such as I2C, SPI, UART, CAN.
- General knowledge of version control systems (Git).
- Excellent English communications (written and verbal) to communicate effectively with peers and stakeholders across the organization.
- A Bachelor’s degree or master’s degree in Electronics or Computer Engineering.

Nice to have:

- Experience with drones and robotics.
- Knowledge of sensor fusion techniques
- Knowledge of RTOS.
- Experience or knowledge of Ardupilot or PX4 is highly desired.
- Knowledge in the use of hardware debugging tools including logic analyzers and oscilloscopes.
- Experience working with hardware.
- Collaborative contributions or side projects demonstrating a desire to hone your craft.
- Working in an office with a distributed workforce environment.
- A background in aerospace and/or automotive manufacturing.
- Experience developing safety-oriented products.
- Experience working in a start-up and aerospace environment.
- Experience with wireless communication protocols (e.g., Bluetooth, Wi-Fi)

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $80,000.00-$120,000.00 per year
