Rooms Preventative Maintenance - Engineering

Role Summary

Reporting to the Engineering Leadership Team, this position is responsible for performing scheduled preventative maintenance, repairs, and guest room inspections throughout guest rooms, meeting spaces, and public areas. This role supports the delivery of exceptional guest experiences in accordance with JW Marriott brand standards and Leading Quality Assurance (LQA) service expectations by maintaining guest accommodations and resort facilities at the highest standards of comfort, cleanliness, functionality, and presentation.

Accountabilities

- Maintain, repair, and clean all guest rooms in accordance with established property preventative maintenance procedures, standards, and inspection checklists
- Perform preventative maintenance on guest room equipment, fixtures, furnishings, and appliances to ensure optimal functionality and appearance
- Responsible for inspecting and flipping mattresses, inspecting box springs, and assembling or repairing furniture as required
- Vacuum behind and underneath furniture in guest rooms and public spaces upon completion of maintenance, repairs, or special projects
- Maintain the cleanliness and appearance of carpets and upholstery through spot cleaning and stain removal procedures
- Ensure all guest room hardware, appliances, fixtures, and amenities are present, properly functioning, and meet JW Marriott presentation standards
- Replace, dust, and clean light fixtures and replace light bulbs as required
- Repair grout, caulking, and sealants in kitchens, kitchenettes, bathrooms, and other guest-facing areas
- Perform general cleaning of guest room surfaces including tubs, wall tiles, floors, walls, windows, mirrors, and associated fixtures following maintenance activities
- Complete minor repairs including drywall patching, unclogging drains and toilets, replacing batteries, fuses, hardware, and other general maintenance tasks
- Apply paint, stain, and protective finishes to walls, ceilings, furniture, and fixtures using appropriate tools and techniques while maintaining established property design specifications
- Apply primers and sealers to prepare bare surfaces including wood and metal for finishing applications




- Remove damaged or worn finishes through sanding, stripping, water blasting, or other approved preparation methods
- Touch up, repair, and refinish furniture and millwork as required to maintain luxury presentation standards
- Perform equipment readings, meter readings, inspections, and maintain maintenance logs accurately and consistently
- Perform routine repairs and assist Engineering Associates with major repairs involving hotel systems including HVAC, boilers, plumbing, pool equipment, kitchen equipment, laundry equipment, appliances, hand tools, and power tools
- Respond to guest requests, maintenance concerns, and service calls promptly, professionally, and with a guest-first approach
- Create memorable guest experiences by minimizing disruptions and ensuring guest rooms and public spaces are maintained to the highest standards of quality and comfort
- Welcome and acknowledge each guest with a warm smile, eye contact, and a genuine verbal greeting, using the guest name whenever possible Communicate professionally and courteously with guests, associates, and contractors while maintaining a positive and solution-oriented attitude
- Maintain clean, organized, and safe work areas while following clean-as-you-go practices
- Follow all company safety policies, engineering procedures, and safe work practices, including the proper use of tools, equipment, and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
- Report accidents, injuries, equipment deficiencies, and unsafe conditions immediately to management
- Compliance with all safety regulations of assigned tasks and ensure a clean and safe working setting through active participation in the health and safety program
- Adhere to all environmental policies and sustainability initiatives as required
- Other duties as assigned

Requirements

- Basic painting, staining, finishing, and general repair and maintenance skills required




- Previous hotel, resort, building operations, facilities maintenance, or related experience required
- Knowledge of preventative maintenance practices and building systems preferred
- Familiarity with WHMIS standards, Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS), and safe chemical handling procedures considered an asset
- Health and Safety training considered an asset
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work independently while managing multiple priorities
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship
- Skilled communication and guest service skills
- Ability to anticipate guest needs and deliver service consistent with JW Marriott and LQA luxury hospitality standards

Working Conditions

- Must be able to work flexible hours including evenings, weekends, and holidays
- Required to move, lift, carry, pull, and place objects weighing less than or equal to 30 pounds without assistance
- Stand, sit, or walk for an extended period of time or for an entire shift
- Reach overhead and below the knees, including bending, twisting, and pulling
- Move through narrow, confined, or elevated spaces
- Move up and down ladders safely and efficiently
- Move over sloping, uneven, or slippery surfaces
