The Role
You will install architectural panel systems, metal roofing and custom flashing details on commercial and institutional projects. This is hands-on layout-and-install work: reading shop drawings and details, setting out panel lines, fabricating and fitting flashings, and finishing the job to a standard you would put your name on.
Qualifications — Required
- Minimum second-year apprentice in the Architectural Sheet Metal Worker apprenticeship program, OR trade qualified
- Demonstrated experience installing metal roofing systems.
- Proven ability to lay out, fabricate and install custom flashing details.
- Proven history of architectural panel installation.
- Ability to read and work from architectural drawings, shop drawings and detail sheets.
- Strict adherence to safety protocols, including fall protection and WorkSafeBC requirements.
- Physically fit and able to perform the duties of the trade — working at heights, on ladders and lifts, in all weather, with repeated lifting and carrying.
- Highly organized: able to manage materials, tools, sequencing and site cleanliness without being chased.
- A team player who communicates well with the crew, the foreman and other trades on site.
- Valid driver's licence and reliable transportation to site.
Systems Experience
Proven hands-on experience with one or more of the following is required; experience across several is a strong advantage:
- ACM / aluminum composite panel — including dry-joint and wet-seal systems, routed and returned panels
- Zinc — standing seam, flat lock, interlocking panel and custom fabrication
- Roll-formed steel — standing seam, concealed fastener and exposed fastener profiles
- Phenolic panel — rainscreen and cladding applications
- Fiber cement — panel and plank rainscreen systems
- Other relevant systems — aluminum plate, copper, terracotta, soffit and column cladding, custom sheet metal
Key Responsibilities
- Install architectural cladding, panel systems and metal roofing to manufacturer specifications and project details.
- Lay out panel modules, joints and reveals; set and verify lines and levels before install.
- Fabricate, form and install custom flashings, closures, copings, trims and transitions.
- Install subgirts, hat channel, clip systems and associated rainscreen components.
- Work from shop drawings; identify conflicts or missing details early and flag them to the foreman.
- Maintain water-tightness and building envelope integrity at every stage of the work.
- Follow all site-specific safety plans, fall protection procedures and toolbox talk requirements.
- Keep the work area, materials and tools organized, protected and clean.
- Mentor and assist apprentices where appropriate.
Assets
- Trade Qualification
- Current Fall Protection, Aerial Work Platform / boom lift, or Working at Heights tickets.
- First Aid certification.
- Brake and shear / in-shop fabrication experience.
- Experience on RCABC RoofStar Guaranteed projects.
Pay: $30.00-$45.00 per hour
