PROFILE
We are seeking an experienced Power Platform Solution Architect with hands-on development experience to join our team. In this role, you will architect, design, build, deploy and enhance solutions on Microsoft Power Platform to streamline business processes and deliver engaging user experiences. You will use Power Platform to develop both canvas and model-driven apps, implement power automate flows for business process automation, build copilot agents from scratch or use pre-built ones, and integrate with internal and external APIs, including Microsoft Graph. In addition, you will provide guidance on platform administration ensuring environments, security, and governance align with best practices.
Your focus will be primarily on the business processes and technologies used by our Intellectual Property (IP) department. Our IP department helps clients to: protect ideas, brands, and creations (patents, trademarks, copyright, trade secrets); manage IP portfolios over time (renewals, global filings); monetize IP (licensing, transactions, M&A; support); enforce rights (disputes, litigation).
This position can be based in our Toronto or Ottawa office.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Solution Architecture
- Responsible for the architectural design, development and deployment of IP technology solutions,
- Design, develop, and implement solutions that improve efficiency, accuracy, and effectiveness.
- Collaborate with key stakeholders to identify and clarify challenges or opportunities to be addressed, determine requirements, map potential solutions, and establish the path to move forward.
- Analyze, create and implement solutions to enhance the IP support business processes, workflows,
communication and opportunities for the integration with other firm systems with a critical eye on continuous improvement.
- Investigate, make recommendations and oversee the implementation of new and/or emerging technologies that will automate and streamline existing IP support processes and create efficiencies.
- Use your skills and experience to provide solutions that leverage the best possible way Power Platform modules and technologies.
- Oversee and implement changes to IP systems and automated processes relating to IP legislative changes.
Development
- Design and build canvas apps for user-friendly, task-oriented scenarios.
- Develop model-driven apps leveraging Dataverse, custom tables, views, forms, and business process flows.
- Build agents from scratch or use pre-built ones, and publish them to various channels like Teams, websites, or mobile apps.
Process Automation
- Build and optimize Power Automate flows (cloud and desktop) for approvals, notifications, integrations, and complex workflows.
- Monitor, troubleshoot, and improve automation performance and reliability.
Integration & APIs
- Connect Power Platform solutions to internal systems, third-party APIs, and services.
- Develop flows and apps using Microsoft Graph API for Microsoft 365 integration (Teams, Outlook, SharePoint, etc.).
- Implement custom connectors where needed.
Collaboration & Leadership
- Partner with business stakeholders to capture requirements and translate them into scalable solutions.
- Document solutions, processes, and technical decisions for support and reusability.
QUALIFICATIONS
Required
- Experience in solutioning business problems using Power Platform.
- 4–6+ years of experience in application development using Microsoft technologies, with at least 3+ years in Microsoft Power Platform.
- Strong understanding of client-server applications, web applications, and database technologies (SQL Server).
- Strong track record developing both canvas and model-driven apps.
- Experience building cloud flows and RPA with Power Automate.
- Good understanding of Copilot Studio and how to build custom agents.
- Proficiency in API integration and hands-on experience with Microsoft Graph API.
- Knowledge of ALM practices in Power Platform (Solutions, GitHub/Azure DevOps pipelines).
- Innovative and creative thinking.
- Ability to instill confidence and build solid relationships.
- Strong problem-solving, debugging, and troubleshooting skills.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement abilities.
Preferred
- Experience with Azure services (Logic Apps, Functions, Service Bus) for advanced integration.
- Solid understanding of Microsoft 365 services (Teams, SharePoint, Outlook).
- Exposure to IntApp Integration Service
- Exposure to Power BI and embedding dashboards into apps
- Exposure to Intellectual Property business processes

The starting range for this role is $110,000 to $140,000. Starting salary will be determined based on an applicant’s individual skills, competencies and unique qualifications. Gowling WLG employees have the potential to exceed this range based on tenure and performance.
