Mechanical Engineer / Mechanical Technician

Location: Kapuskasing, Ontario – Paper Mill
Salary: $70,000 – $105,000 per year
Employment Type: Full-Time

We are currently recruiting for a Mechanical Engineer / Mechanical Technician to join a well-established paper mill operation in Kapuskasing, Ontario.

This is an excellent opportunity for a mechanically focused professional looking to take on a hands-on role involving root cause analysis, project management, capital projects, operational improvements, and health & safety within a large industrial manufacturing environment.

About the Role

Reporting to the Manufacturing Services Manager, you will provide mechanical engineering and technical support across the mill while leading projects and identifying opportunities to improve reliability, efficiency, safety, and overall operating performance.

You will work closely with operations, maintenance, management, employees, and other stakeholders to develop practical solutions and support the ongoing success of the facility.

Key Responsibilities

- Lead root cause analysis and develop effective, practical solutions to mechanical and operational issues.
- Manage and lead assigned engineering projects, studies, and project support activities.
- Support the preparation and successful completion of capital projects, ensuring compliance with established guidelines, controls, budgets, and timelines.
- Identify opportunities to reduce operating costs, improve efficiency, and maximize profitability across mill operations.
- Recommend capital investments and improvements that can enhance the reliability and performance of the facility.
- Provide recommendations regarding spare parts, standard equipment, and purchasing requirements.
- Ensure engineering and construction activities follow established internal procedures, controls, and sound financial, maintenance, and operating plans.
- Promote and maintain a safe workplace,



actively supporting the site's Health & Safety Program and identifying opportunities for continuous improvement.
- Ensure all projects and activities comply with applicable environmental standards, regulations, and internal requirements.
- Support positive union, management, and employee relations, including compliance with the applicable collective agreement.
- Participate in weekend duty when required.
- Work collaboratively with internal teams to resolve technical challenges and improve overall mill performance.

What We're Looking For

- University degree in Mechanical Engineering or a college diploma/equivalent technical qualification.
- 3–5 years of relevant experience in mechanical engineering, industrial maintenance, manufacturing, or a related field.
- Membership with a Canadian professional engineering association is considered an asset.
- Strong problem-solving and root cause analysis capabilities.
- Excellent written and verbal English communication skills.
- French language skills are considered an asset.
- Strong project management, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- A practical, safety-focused approach to engineering and manufacturing operations.
