These two concurrent courses are run in partnership with CityLAB Hamilton, a social innovation hub that brings together student, academic and civic leaders to co-create a better Hamilton for all. The CityLAB Semester in Residence (SIR) is a project-based experiential term where students work in interdisciplinary teams mentored by City of Hamilton staff and course instructors to address real challenges faced by the City. Students taking part in CityLAB SIR spend their entire term together, enrolled in CMTYENGA 4A06: Design and Dialogue Inquiry and CMTYENGA 4A09: Applied Project Experience. The Semester in Residence is taught in person. The successful applicant should expect to be in the classroom for two, 2.5 hour sessions each week. One session will be led by the applicant,

and the second will be co-created with the other members of the core instruction team delivering the CityLab SIR program.

This posting is for the Dialogue section of the Semester in Residence. Additional instructors take on Design instruction (5 units) and Project Management instructor (6 units). The Project Management instructor is compensated with 6 units and takes responsibility for week-to-week co-ordination of the core instruction team. The support team for CityLab SIR includes an onsite Instructional Coordinator, as well as staff from CityLab Hamilton and McMaster’s Office of Community Engagement. The Office of Community Engagement will offer an additional contract to the successful candidate to support course development and co-ordination with the other instructors over the summer. Candidates are encouraged to explore the CityLab and Office of Community Engagement websites on CityLab SIR before applying. Questions can be directed to Sashaina Singh ( [email protected] ).
