We are committed to innovation, quality, and continuous improvement. We are looking for a motivated and detail-oriented Entry-Level Mechanical Engineering Technologist to join our design team.
Job Summary:
The Entry-Level Mechanical Engineering Technologist will play a crucial role in supporting our design and engineering department. This position involves applying fundamental mechanical engineering principles to assist in the design, drafting, and problem-solving processes within our steel fabrication and welding environment. The ideal candidate will be eager to learn, competent in CAD, and possess a strong commitment to accuracy and efficiency.
Key Responsibilities:
- CAD and Drafting:
- Create, modify, and manage detailed 2D drawings and 3D models of components, assemblies, and fixtures using CAD software (Onshape, Solidworks, Inventor).
- Ensure all drawings adhere to industry standards, company specifications, and proper drafting conventions (GD&T; knowledge is a plus).
- Maintain and update engineering documentation and drawing databases.
- Apply proper DFAM (Design For Assembly and Manufacturing) principles
- Design Support and Problem Solving:
- Assist senior designers in new projects, material selection, modeling, drawings, and process optimization related to steel fabrication and welding.
- Investigate and resolve engineering and manufacturing issues that arise on the shop floor, focusing on root cause analysis and practical solutions.
- Conduct basic engineering calculations to validate designs.
- Manufacturing Support:
- Work closely with production, quality assurance, and operations teams to ensure designs are manufacturable and meet quality standards.
- Participate in prototype development and testing.
- General:
- Maintain a safe working environment and adhere to all company safety policies.
- Continuously seek opportunities to improve technical knowledge and skill set.
Qualifications:
Required:
- Education: Associate's Degree or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering Technology or a related field.
- Technical Skills:
- Proven competency and practical experience with a major CAD software package (e.g., Onshape, SolidWorks, Inventor, Fusion).
- Strong understanding of mechanical drafting principles and geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T;).
- Basic knowledge of materials and manufacturing processes, particularly steel fabrication and welding.
- Soft Skills:
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills with a hands-on approach.
- Strong attention to detail and a commitment to producing accurate work.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
Preferred (Assets):
- Previous internship or co-op experience in a manufacturing or fabrication setting.
- Experience or exposure to robotic systems (e.g., robotic welding cells, programming, troubleshooting).
- Familiarity with Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) or Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) systems.
Working Conditions:
The role is primarily office-based but will require frequent presence on the manufacturing floor to collaborate with production teams and inspect components.
