SD42 is looking for a qualified applicant interested in working as a Counsellor in our Safe and Caring Schools program, for a 0.8 FTE continuing position, effective September 1, 2026 .

Responsibilities

- Provide individual, small-group, and classroom-based counselling to support students’ intellectual, social, emotional, and personal development.
- Deliver preventative and intervention-based counselling services using developmentally appropriate, trauma-informed, and culturally responsive practices.
- Support students in building self-awareness, emotional regulation, social skills, problem-solving abilities, and resiliency.
- Work in an itinerant role across multiple school communities to address diverse and evolving student needs.
- Collaborate with teachers, administrators, families, and school-based teams to promote student well-being and success.
- Participate in the development and implementation of Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and other student support plans.
- Provide consultation to staff and families regarding student mental health, behaviour, and social-emotional needs.




- Coordinate referrals and connect students and families with district and community support services.
- Support students and families during school transitions.
- Contribute to student goal-setting, decision-making, and personal planning through age-appropriate activities.
- Maintain confidential and accurate documentation in accordance with district policies and skilled standards.

Qualifications

- A master’s degree in counselling psychology or equivalent, combined with successful elementary classroom teaching and counselling experience.
- Valid BC Teaching Certificate & TQS card.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills with other professionals including school-based teams, and the ability to work as part of a strong collaborative team.
