Job Purpose Reporting to the Director, Economic Policy, the economist will provide timely research, analysis, and forecasts related to provincial economies, the auto sector, and other topical economic issues. This role enhances Scotiabank Economics’ insights by strengthening macroeconomic analysis, informing economic policy analysis, and delivering high-impact commentary to internal and external stakeholders in a fast-paced environment. Success in this role requires a solid economic background, solid communication skills, intellectual curiosity, flexibility, and a cooperative nature. Is this role right for you? In this role, you will be involved in: Provincial and auto sector analysis and forecasting Analyse and forecast provincial economies, including using econometric tools. Report on provincial budgets, mid-year updates, and other major fiscal developments. Analyse and forecast vehicle sales. Apply a wide range of econometric, statistical,
and computational tools to analyze economic trends, policy impacts, and thematic issues to generate data-driven insights. Trade and other topical issues Track and analyse tariff developments. Analyze and draft reports on topical economic issues facing Canada. Innovate using emerging tools and data Integrate advanced technologies (e.G., AI, LLMs) and alternative data sources (e.G., big data, high-frequency indicators) into economic research. Develop insights that support strategic decision-making for senior management, the Chief Economist, Directors and VPs. Collaborate across teams to deliver joint outputs and advance department-wide priorities. Communicate insights to diverse audiences Deliver clear, impactful economic commentary through reports, presentations, and media engagements. Prepare thought leadership pieces for industry publications to strengthen Scotiabank’s brand. Provide perspectives on both specialized topics and the broader economic outlook as needed.
