Job Description:

Senior Backend Developer (Node.js/Java) | Client Lifecycle Management (CLM)

RBC Capital Markets is hiring a Senior Backend Developer to support the Client Lifecycle Management (CLM) domain within Quantitative & Technology Services (QTS). This team is central to enhancing how RBC onboards, maintains, and offboards institutional and corporate clients through strategic automation, regulatory compliance, and data fabric enablement.

The CLM domain is currently undergoing a massive modernization of its infrastructure and automation capabilities. You will be a key technical contributor in building scalable, compliant, and high-performance backend systems that drive the next generation of client lifecycle processes.

What will you do?

Engineering & Architecture

- Development of robust backend services using Node.js, JavaScript, and REST API design, focusing on scalability and low-latency processing.
- REST API design and implementation, OAuth authentication
- Optimize data persistence and retrieval strategies using MongoDB, ensuring high availability for complex client data structures.
- Explore and implement WebAssembly (Wasm) modules to improve performance for computationally intensive tasks within the browser or server-side environments.




- Modernize legacy CLM infrastructure by transitioning to a cloud-native, microservices-oriented architecture.

Technical Execution

- Drive the end-to-end delivery of technical features
- Build and maintain complex data integrations that fuel the CLM "data fabric," ensuring seamless connectivity between internal tech teams and external vendors.
- Proactively identify and resolve technical, architectural blockers, and performance bottlenecks.
- Collaborate closely with QA and DevOps to implement automated testing frameworks and CI/CD pipelines for performance validation.

What do you need to succeed?

Minimum Requirements

- 7+ years of professional software development experience, with a heavy focus on backend systems within financial services.
- Expert-level proficiency in Node.js, with the ability to navigate and integrate both ecosystems effectively.
- Robust experience with MongoDB, including schema design, aggregation frameworks, and performance tuning.
- Proven track record in Capital Markets tech, with a solid understanding of the client lifecycle (onboarding, KYC, AML).
- Location: Halifax, 4x days onsite requirement

Nice to Have

- Hands-on experience or a strong interest in WebAssembly (Wasm) for performance optimization.
