Qualifications

The Director of Lands and resources must possess a degree or diploma in a field related to lands and resources management, public administration, or equivalent years of work experience; Must have a thorough understanding of LSCFN’s Final Agreement, Self-Government Agreement and all territorial and federal legislation related to the management of lands and resources in LSCFN’s traditional territory; Knowledge of LSCFN’s history, culture, demographics, goals and aspirations; Knowledge of Dän K’i and our Traditional Values. Must have experience in development and management of budgets.

Must possess exceptional written and verbal communication skills; Valid class 5 Driver’s License.

Main Duties

Reporting to the Executive Director, the incumbent is responsible for the overall planning, implementing and management of the Little Salmon Carmacks First Nation Lands & Resources Department. The position is responsible for implementing LSCFN rights and obligations related to land and resources within the Traditional Territory as directed through the Land Claims agreement. This is carried out by ensuring administration of all laws, regulations and policies related to use and occupation of Settlement Lands of the LSCFN; assisting the LSCFN Government in issues related to lands and resources; ensuring proper regulation and within the LSCFN Traditional Territory; and ensuring effective operation of the department by:

• Implementing the decisions, strategic plan and policies of Chief & Council;


• Setting goals and objectives for Lands and Resources programming for the FN, and developing long‑term plans and strategies to implement the plans;


• Planning, designing, developing, establishing, implementing, monitoring, directing, and evaluating all programs and initiatives;


• Promoting LSCFN’s Final and self‑government agreements.


• Consulting, liaising, and facilitating between Lands staff, the LSCFN Chief & Council, and the community in all matters related to Fish and Wildlife, Heritage and Lands matters of the FN;


• Overseeing the planning, promotion and arrangements for projects and events to ensure they reflect culture and Heritage.


• Recruitment, hiring, performance managing, and evaluating the staff in the department;


• Communication with FN members, and the community, participating in staff and general meetings, assisting with compilation of monthly reports and newsletter items, making activity schedules available, and attending regular and special meetings of the FN.
