Job Summary





The Janitor maintains the cleanliness of the facility and grounds of the long term care home while keeping appropriate inventory and distributing goods for all departments.

Duties & Responsibilities

- Receive, secureand distributegoods for all departments as per the established procedures.
- Secureall coinciding documentation and forwards to the appropriate department head.
- Order, maintainand controlappropriate inventory as per established procedures.
- Storegoods in a safe, tidy manner in designated storage areas.
- Cleanthe facility and grounds as per established schedule.
- Operateand maintainfloor cleaning and other janitorial equipment.
- Cleanwalls, ceilings and windows as instructed.
- Cleanceiling fans and vents as instructed.
- Collectgarbage and transportto collection bins.
- Collectrecyclable material and transportto collection bins.
- Performspecial project cleaning in designated areas.
- Setup and takedown furniture for functions.
- Assistwith moving of resident’s belongings.
- Assistthe laundry operation as required.
- Respondto a facility fire alarm in accordance with the established Policies and Procedures.
- Participatein Continuous Quality Improvement activities.
- Performother related duties as assigned.

Skills & Qualifications

- Secondary School Graduation Diploma with relevant work experience.
- Ability to handle janitorial/cleaning equipment and tools.
- Strong time management skills, and the ability to plan and schedule tasks as appropriate.
- Ability to work in a team and independently.
- Basic knowledge of computers.
- Understanding of the Residents’ Bill of Rights and Compliance Standards as set out by the Ministry of Health and Long Term Care.

Working Conditions

- Flexibility to work outside of core business hours including evenings, weekends and holidays is required.




- The incumbent must be able to perform all the necessary physical tasks associated with the position including lifting approximately 50 lbs., pushing, pulling, and moving heavy materials, equipment and boxes.

- Current (obtained within the past six (6) months), original and acceptable Criminal Records Check with Vulnerable Sector Check, by the first day of employment.
- Current(obtained within the past six (6) months) two-step tuberculosis test orQuanti-FERON-TB Gold plus testby thefirst day of employment.
