Role Description The Mine Planning & Quarry Operations Manager is a dual-focus leadership role responsible for both the technical design and day-to-day operational execution of our open-pit quarry. You will develop short-, medium-, and long-term mine extraction plans while directly overseeing quarry operations, heavy equipment utilization, and workforce safety. A key focus is ensuring strict compliance with Saskatchewan mining regulations and environmental standards. Key Responsibilities 1. Technical Mine Planning & Engineering Design and Schedule : Develop 0-12 month short-range and long-term extraction plans using mine planning software (e.G.,Carlson Surface, K-Mine, OpenContour. Pit Optimization : Define optimal pit walls, catch benches, ramp designs, and waste dump locations. Drill & Blast Engineering : Create pattern layouts to optimize fragmentation, maximize yield, and reduce dilution. Material Reconciliation : Conduct weekly planned-versus-actual reconciliations for hauled volumes and grades. Stockpile Management : Design blending strategies to ensure a consistent, high-quality feed to the crushing plant. 2. Site Operations & Team Management Daily Supervision :
Lead, mentor, and schedule pit crews, heavy equipment operators, and subcontractors. Production Targets : Manage daily load-and-haul operations to achieve volume quotas and budget KPIs. Asset Management : Coordinate with the maintenance team to maximize the mechanical availability of fleet vehicles. Civil Infrastructure : Oversee the construction and upkeep of pit access roads, water dewatering systems, and sumps. 3. Health, Safety & Environmental Compliance Regulatory Alignment : Enforce compliance with The Mines Regulations, 2018 under the Saskatchewan Employment Act. Safety Culture : Lead daily toolbox talks, conduct field risk assessments, and investigate safety incidents. Permit Maintenance : Manage site water discharge, dust control plans, and progressive reclamation boundaries. Requirements & Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Mining Engineering , Geological Engineering , or a related discipline. Registered (or immediately eligible for registration) as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) with the Association of Skilled Engineers and Geoscientists of Saskatchewan (APEGS). Valid Class 5 Driver's License and a clean driving abstract. Minimum of 5 to 8 years of experience in open-pit mining or aggregate quarry operations. Hands-on mastery of 3D mining software packages alongside advanced Microsoft Excel skills. Demonstrated ability to manage hourly workforces and external contractors under demanding conditions.
