Job Overview

Join our innovative and growing team at Penticton Regional Hospital as a Infection Control Practitioner . This relief full-time opportunity is available until January 03, 2028, or the return of the incumbent. It offers a chance to make a meaningful impact on patient and staff safety while working within a collaborative and supportive healthcare team. Candidates must be a Registered Nurse with recent acute or long-term care experience, including expertise in infection prevention and control processes such as outbreak management, point-of-care risk assessments, routine practices, and additional precautions. They must have completed, or be enrolled in, an IPAC Canada-endorsed Infection Prevention and Control course.

Shift Times

Monday to Friday from 08:00 to 16:00.

Responsibilities

The Infection Control Practitioner (ICP) practices in accordance with the standards of professional practice as outlined by the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives. The ICP promotes a safe and respectful environment for clients, families, visitors, and staff. Reporting to the Infection Prevention and Control (IPAC) Manager, the ICP works to reduce the acquisition of healthcare-associated infections by developing standards and assisting in the monitoring of infection control measures in acute, long-term care and community settings within IH.



The ICP participates in the development, implementation, and evaluation of infection control initiatives using quality improvement methodologies and evidence-informed practice. They function as a consultant, mentor, and educator in infection prevention and control with all levels of IH staff, visitors, volunteers, and others. The ICP is responsible for promoting excellence in client-centered care through cooperative planning and organizing activities necessary to meet IPAC standards in the assigned departments, programs, facilities, and sites, fulfilling functions of health service, education, and research.

Qualifications

• Registered Nurse • Recent acute or long-term care experience • Expertise in infection prevention and control processes (outbreak management, point-of-care risk assessments, routine practices, additional precautions) • Completion or enrollment in an IPAC Canada-endorsed Infection Prevention and Control course
