Position Overview
Assistant/Associate/Full Professor in Food Security and Sustainable Agriculture – Tenure Stream. Intake at the Faculty of Agriculture, Dalhousie University, Truro, Nova Scotia, Canada. Successful appointment will commence as early as July 1, 2026, and is supported by the Dalhousie Diversity Faculty Awards (DDFA). The role will involve teaching, research, and service in a multidisciplinary environment that spans food security, sustainable agriculture, applied ecology, agroecology, rural development, and interdisciplinary studies.

Responsibilities

Teach diploma, undergraduate, and graduate courses, including a semester course in Fujian Province, China every two years.

Develop and lead an externally funded, internationally recognized research program focused on food security and sustainable agriculture.

Collaborate across departments within the Faculty of Agriculture, the Department of Business and Social Sciences, and with industry, government research institutions, and community stakeholders.

Supervise graduate students and contribute to undergraduate education through mentoring and guidance.

Serve on departmental and university committees and participate in other service activities that advance the mission of Dalhousie University.

Qualifications

PhD in Rural Studies, Sustainability, or a closely related field.

Demonstrated record of high‑quality research publication in areas such as food security, sustainable agriculture, applied ecology, agroecology, rural development, environmental sciences, and interdisciplinary studies.

Minimum of three years of effective university teaching experience (SLEQ scores required).

Proven or demonstrable potential for acquiring research funding, including Tri‑Council (NSERC, SSHRC, CIHR) support.

Track record of enriching diversity,



equity, inclusion, and accessibility in teaching, research, and service.

Lived‑experience and worldview that foster critical perspectives and cultural contributions.

Willingness to relocate to Truro, Nova Scotia, and to teach and work in person at the Dalhousie Faculty of Agriculture campus.

Desired Experience

Career development related to teaching.

Prior international teaching experience.

Prior graduate student supervision experience.

Engagement in social learning, systems change, and civic engagement initiatives.
