Position Summary
The Sourcing Specialist works to achieve a competitive advantage for Parker by establishing contractual material supply agreements, and developing and maintaining a broad base of world class suppliers that will ensure a consistent supply of high quality, cost competitive materials and services.
Responsibilities
Continuously search, on a global basis, for new suppliers who can provide better materials, technologies, quality, and/or costs.
Continuously explore areas of prospect and investigate better ways of working with current suppliers so that “overall costs of acquisition” are minimized.
Negotiate material supply contracts with suppliers and establish blanket orders, utilizing consignment agreements, vendor stocking programs and “kanban” contracts where applicable.
Work closely with other purchasing staff to ensure that suppliers are cooperative and continually meeting their obligations.
Target material cost reductions objectives for assigned commodities to meet or exceed Supply Chain material budgets on a division level.
Report results to management on a regular basis.
Qualifications
A Post Secondary Education with five (5) to seven (7) years of buying experience, or a certificate/diploma in Buying/Purchasing with three (3) to five (5) years of buying experience, preferably in the manufacturing sector, or a combination of relevant education and experience.
Excellent communications skills (verbal and written).
Excellent interpersonal skills and must be able to deal effectively with people at all levels of the organization, including suppliers, representatives and manufacturers.
Excellent negotiations skills.
Excellent understanding of key business drivers and the ability to link these to Supply Chain practices.
High level of proficiency in the use of personal computers, including Excel and Word.
Comprehension of MRP/ERP systems, contract law, and mechanical drawings.
