Our dedicated staff is here to provide exceptional maternity care, including prenatal classes, a private birthing experience, and post‑birth supports. We welcome all families with inclusive, accessible, and comprehensive maternity care services. We strive to provide culturally‑safe and trauma‑informed care and offer Indigenous Wellness Liaisons for culturally appropriate supports.

Salary

The salary range for this position is CAD $41.42 per hour to CAD $55.91 per hour.

Responsibilities

- Assess, identify, plan, implement and evaluate nursing care required to assist patients/residents in meeting their physical, social, spiritual and psychological needs using an established framework for nursing practice.
- Develop, implement, evaluate and revise the plan of care.
- Incorporate individual and/or group teaching into the care plan and nursing interventions and/or make referrals to other identified resources.
- Support other nurses and health care professionals by collegially sharing information and demonstrating procedures.

Your Day to Day

- Review patient/resident status through chart, observation, interview, questionnaires, and consultation with peers.
- Assess problems and needs, plan, implement, evaluate and prioritize nursing care, and develop the plan of care using clinical judgement and evidence‑based practice.
- Provide nursing care according to identified policies, procedures, technology and PHC standards.
- Monitor progress, evaluate outcomes, reassess if goals are not met,



and modify plan of care.
- Record observations and report problems or changes in condition to designated staff.
- Provide direct interventions for management of crisis and life‑threatening situations.
- Document information including assessments, plan of care, status, progress and discharge plans in a manual and/or computerized environment.
- Identify and respond to patient/family learning needs, provide educational materials, incorporate teaching activities into the care plan, and make referrals to other resources; lead group sessions and coach families to develop health‑promoting behaviours.
- Provide direction to other staff such as Care Attendants and Licensed Practical Nurses, facilitate effective teamwork, share information, demonstrate procedures, and provide guidance on related tasks.
- Participate in nursing orientation, share clinical knowledge, and attend in‑service presentations and educational programs as required.

Qualifications

Education: If the applicant does not possess the required qualifications, PHC will fund Post‑Basic Education. Funding includes 100% tuition and books and wages at 100% of posted FTE. Eligibility is restricted to applicants with a minimum of 1‑2 years of medical/surgical experience (2 years preferred)



who have not received Post‑Basic Education Funding from PHC in the past 2 years. The applicant must complete the Post‑Basic Education before working in the department.

Skills and Abilities: Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing; demonstrated knowledge of CPR procedures appropriate for the service area; ability to work in an interdisciplinary team; ability to apply decision making and analytical skills; ability to deal with others effectively; ability to role model conflict resolution strategies; physical ability to carry out duties; ability to prioritize and organize work; ability to operate related equipment; ability to teach and identify learning needs; ability to lead patient/family group sessions; ability to provide clinical direction.
