What this job involves:
The HSSE Lead serves as the primary point of contact for all health, safety, and environmental requirements and activities for the account in Canada. This role plays a critical part in advancing JLL’s EHS culture by providing technical expertise, strategic leadership, and regulatory compliance support across all JLL facilities, including acquisitions. You will communicate EHS needs and results to the Account Central Leadership Team while driving continuous improvement in safety practices and compliance standards. This is an opportunity to make a meaningful impact on workplace safety and environmental stewardship across our Canadian operations.
What your day‑to‑day will look like:
Lead the development and refinement of JLL’s EHS culture and training programs on the account, providing oversight and alignment for training and presentations on specific topics applicable to account employees.
Provide technical expertise, strategic leadership, and support on regulatory compliance issues in Environmental Health and Safety for all JLL facilities, including acquisitions.
Manage and provide EHS oversight of trending factors and indicators, reporting to management monthly and supplying current and historical EHS data to meet all CPI/KPI metrics.
Support Service Line leads in managing the training program for the account, including document creation, tracking, and reporting, while ensuring compliance with all EHS sections of the Engineering Services Compliance Program (JCAP).
Ensure that accidents, injuries, near misses, valuable catches, and other events are captured, managed,
and reported; maintain the Register of Accidents, Incidents and First Aid record‑keeping requirements for the account in Canada and serve as the Account Administrator for JLL’s AIMS (Accident & Incident Management System).
Lead or support investigations of serious safety events, analyze root causes, track implementation of corrective actions, and prepare communications to share lessons learned across account operations.
Collaborate with other JLL EHS managers to learn and publish best practices developed on client accounts for the benefit of all firm clients, and support the Global HSSE Director in rolling out new compliance and best‑management practices programs.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree or 10 years of relevant field experience.
Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) or Certified Safety Professional (CSP) certification.
Practical working knowledge of Health and Safety tools and techniques, ideally within a Facilities Management environment.
Knowledge and understanding of relevant standards, legislation, codes of practice, guidance, and operating procedures.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English and French.
Strong organizational skills, information management proficiency, and collaborative management style.
Ability to carry out audits and gather objective evidence through observation, interview, and sampling of documents and records.
Preferred Qualifications:
Master’s Degree in a relevant field (Occupational Safety, Environmental Science, Industrial Hygiene, Public Health).
Presentation skills to deliver specialist advice at all levels and to deliver localized training to staff as required.
Evidence of strong interpersonal skills to establish credibility with colleagues and senior management.
Ability to work through and identify the root cause of any problem.
Ability to keep abreast of trends and related best practices in the EHS field.
Oral and/or written interactions with tenants or external partners based outside Quebec (for example, service providers, law firms, peers, bankers, brokerage firms, credit analysis firms, credit agencies, non‑French‑speaking clients, etc.).
