Job Description
Position: Maintenance Heavy Duty Mechanic

Primary Location: Brandon, MB

Shift: 8 hours/day – Monday‑Friday 7:30‑3:30 (Ongoing occasional overtime may be required)

Reports To: Maintenance Supervisor

Compensation: $61.32 per hour + perks as governed by the CBA

The CAD hourly rate for this role is $61.32 plus benefits. Rates are determined by role, level, location, relevant skills, experience and education.

About This Position And About You
Provide maintenance support for the facility, including planning, scheduling and conducting overall plant and equipment maintenance. Ensure that both planned and unplanned work is completed safely, efficiently and without environmental impact.

Qualification

Must be a Red‑Seal Heavy Duty Mechanic.

Welding Red‑Seal certification is an asset.

3–5 years of experience in an industrial or chemical environment is highly preferred.

Operation of mobile equipment: aerial work platform, forklift, front‑end loader.

Competencies

Ability to obtain safety certifications (confined space, fall protection, forklift, etc.).

Excel in a team‑based, self‑managed environment.

Strong organizational and problem‑solving skills.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Adaptability to perform duties beyond the traditional job title scope.

Assist other trades as required.

Basic computer literacy.

Responsibilities

Comply with all Chemtrade EHS policies (lockout/tagout, confined space, safe work permits, fall protection, PPE, etc.).

Conduct corrective, predictive and preventive maintenance (PM) using the site CMMS, continually seeking improvements to the PM program.





Perform maintenance and repairs on various gas and diesel mobile equipment and aerial work platforms.

Coordinate or complete all work requested through the Work Order (WO) system.

Understand the function of all equipment and associated hazards.

Operate hydraulic systems.

Assist in organizing scheduled day‑to‑day activities, emergency work, and plant turnarounds.

Assist in managing spare parts inventory.

Collaborate with the CMMS management group to ensure timely WO and PM completion.

Become competent in mechanical integrity and inspection requirements.

Physical Conditions

Physical strength, hand‑eye coordination and endurance are required.

Frequent sitting, standing, walking, reaching, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling.

Climbing multi‑level stairs/ladders as needed.

Wearing site‑designated PPE at all times (hard hats, steel‑toe boots, safety glasses, covers, PVC acid‑resistant suits, hearing protection, hand protection).

Specific vision abilities: close vision is required.

Occasional long hours sitting in an office environment are possible.

‘Fit for all the above duties’ is essential.

Work in dusty areas with chemical odors.

Safety is a job requirement.

Work in adverse weather conditions.

Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.

Physically fit to perform traditional heavy‑duty mechanic tasks.
