Our client, a leading organization in the energy sector, is seeking an experienced Finance Controller to join their team in Oshawa, Ontario .
This is a high-impact leadership opportunity for a strategic finance professional who enjoys partnering with senior business leaders to influence operational and financial performance. As a key member of the leadership team, you will oversee a team of finance professionals while providing financial guidance, business planning support, and controllership oversight across a large, complex business unit. You'll play an integral role in driving financial accountability, supporting major business initiatives, and ensuring strong governance and internal controls.
This is a fully in office position based in Oshawa, Ontario.

Collaborative and supportive leadership team
Responsibilities Serve as the primary finance and accounting advisor to senior site leadership, providing strategic financial guidance and decision support.
Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing Controllership team, fostering a culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement.
Oversee monthly and year-end financial reporting, ensuring the accuracy, completeness, and integrity of financial information.
Lead budgeting, forecasting, business planning, and variance analysis activities while providing actionable insights to leadership.




Champion strong financial governance by maintaining effective internal controls and supporting audit requirements.
Identify financial risks and opportunities, recommending solutions that align with organizational objectives.
Partner with operational leaders to develop and evaluate business cases supporting capital investments and strategic initiatives.
Collaborate with corporate finance teams, including Planning, Tax, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, and other key stakeholders to ensure alignment across the organization.
Drive continuous improvement initiatives by enhancing financial processes, systems, and reporting capabilities.
Present financial results, forecasts, and strategic recommendations to senior leadership and executive stakeholders.
Qualifications CPA designation (or internationally recognized equivalent) in good standing.
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related discipline.
8-10 years of progressive finance and accounting experience within a complex organization.
Previous leadership experience managing and developing finance or controllership teams.
Strong background in financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, month-end and year-end close, and variance analysis.
Experience establishing and maintaining strong internal controls, financial governance, and audit readiness.
Demonstrated success supporting strategic planning, business case development,



and financial decision-making.
Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills with the ability to influence senior leaders and build strong cross‑functional relationships.
Strong analytical mindset with a proactive approach to identifying risks, opportunities, and process improvements.
Experience within the utilities, energy, manufacturing, mining, automotive, or other capital-intensive industries is considered an asset.
Must-Haves CPA designation (or internationally recognized equivalent).
8-10 years of progressive finance and accounting experience.
Previous leadership experience managing finance or controllership teams.
Strong experience with budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting, and internal controls.
Exceptional communication and stakeholder management skills.
Nice-to-Haves Experience within utilities, energy, nuclear, manufacturing, mining, automotive, or other capital-intensive industries.
Experience supporting large operational business units or project-based environments.
Exposure to business case development, capital planning, and strategic investment analysis.
