Job Description
The Credit Analyst is responsible for evaluating consumer and commercial credit applications, analyzing financial information and credit reports, and making sound lending decisions while ensuring compliance with company policies and risk guidelines. The role builds strong relationships with automotive dealers, negotiates loan terms, provides exceptional customer service, and helps drive business growth by balancing credit risk with customer and dealer needs.
Responsibilities
Analyze information received from credit applications and credit reporting agencies to make prudent credit decisions.
Maintain or exceed established standards and targets while adhering to all credit policies, procedures and guidelines.
Escalate with recommendation those credit applications that exceed discretionary limits and established guidelines.
Assess credit worthiness of prospective customers and approve or recommend credit terms and limits appropriate to their requirements.
Establish dealer relationships by building rapport through telephone contact.
Take initiative and work in a team environment to deliver excellent customer service, meeting turnaround times by processing requests.
Be flexible, reliable, conscientious, and able to follow directions.
Perform due diligence in support of all credit applications.
Negotiate terms and conditions of loan decisions with dealers within established approval and exception guidelines.
Show excellent listening skills.
Have sound knowledge of assessing and reviewing financial statements to ensure credit worthiness vs. acceptable level of risk.
Promote and provide a high standard of service to dealers and other areas within the company by adhering to service standard guidelines.
Support both inbound and outbound calls with a focus on professional customer service related to applications, programs, rates and vehicle residual values.
Maintain good channels of communication with all business units, including interaction with senior leadership team.
Contribute to operational improvements to streamline procedures and enhance service.
Qualifications
Knowledge of basic lending principles.
Knowledge and understanding of basic credit bureau reports.
Knowledge and understanding of detailed financial statement and ratio analysis.
Knowledge of standard office software.
Automotive lending and/or leasing experience would be considered a definite asset.
Written and oral English is a must; bilingual French is required.
Excellent report writing and communication skills.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Successful candidate must be able to work in a fast‑paced, high‑pressure setting.
Candidate must be detail‑oriented, open to change, work independently, be a team player, and be organized.
Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills with the ability to underwrite loans and mitigate risk.
Ability to successfully negotiate business transactions with automotive dealers.
Additional Knowledge And Skills
Working effectively within an AI‑enabled environment.
Ability to use AI tools (e.g., Microsoft Copilot) to support daily work.
Skills in evaluating AI outputs for accuracy, compliance, and bias.
Experience integrating AI into workflows to improve efficiency or insights.
Familiarity with AI‑assisted research, summarization, and content generation.
Understanding of responsible AI use, including ethics and data protection.
Work Experience & Education
1 year of lending experience preferred.
Minimum education of a college or university business diploma or equivalent experience.

This posting is for a vacancy. The base range for this role is: $52,000–$93,000.
At GM Financial, we strive for transparency in all aspects of our business, including pay equity. This is the GM Financial pay range for this role and job level. The exact salary and compensation will vary based on factors such as knowledge, skills, experience, and education.
This role is eligible to participate in a performance‑based incentive plan. Full‑time employees are eligible to participate in health benefits after 30 days of employment.
