Your Opportunity As an Urban Planner within our Community Development team based in our Edmonton Office, you will have the opportunity to work on projects in the private and public sectors such as new neighbourhood plans, Area Structure Plans, and public engagement as well as both greenfield and infill rezoning and subdivision applications. Our highly experienced, multi‑disciplinary team specialises in urban design; integration of architecture, street design, public space design, and sustainability with urban planning; bicycle, and pedestrian‑oriented planning. We connect the people, places, and resources that take a project from concept to reality.
Your Key Responsibilities Preparation and/or analysis of planning related policy documents, site plans, subdivisions, road closure and rezoning applications.
Conduct research regarding planning policy, land use, social and economic topics.
Provide professional advice regarding planning policy and zoning interpretation and regulatory approvals.
Communicate with other multidisciplinary team members on relevant aspects of projects.




Assist with public engagement events.
Assist in the preparation of proposals and other business development activities.
Your Capabilities and Credentials Membership/eligibility, with the Canadian Institute of Planners or Alberta Professional Planners Institute.
Knowledge and experience in community development and urban design leading practices.
Excellent written/oral communication skills, organisational skills, and high attention to detail.
Creative problem solving and analytical skills.
Proficiency in Microsoft and other programs such as InDesign are an asset.
Education and Experience Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Urban Planning; Master’s degree in Planning is considered an asset.
Minimum 2 years of relevant professional experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Position will primarily work in an office environment. Some travel may be required, such as delivering plans or documents to reviewing agencies or clients or to attend meetings. May occasionally visit study areas, construction sites and/or be exposed to outside elements and inclement weather conditions.

Pay Transparency In compliance with pay transparency laws, pay ranges are provided for positions in locations where required. Please note, the final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible. Actual compensation for part‑time roles will be pro‑rated based on the agreed number of working hours per week.
