This posting is for an existing, currently open position within Kawartha Lakes Fire Services. Applications will be reviewed as received. Availability for additional hours required; Travel throughout the City of Kawartha Lakes in accordance with job requirements, work location may vary

Essential Duties

- Interact directly with communities and citizens in delivery of fire prevention services and programs
- Assist with development, implementation and delivery of public education programs to promote fire safety and fire prevention in accordance with the Fire Protection and Prevention Act , including public presentation displays, distribution of promotional materials, lectures and demonstrations
- Enforce fire prevention regulations of the City of Kawartha Lakes and the Province of Ontario; conduct inspections on all types of new/existing buildings and ensure conformity with applicable by-laws, codes and regulations, as required




- Issue compliance orders, attend Court or judicial proceedings to support prosecution process or related legal proceedings
- Inspect and test fire protection equipment and systems, prepare reports, testify and give evidence in court and prepare and present seminars on fire prevention and safety to groups and members of the public
- Perform site inspections, evaluations and compile detailed reports of inspections
- Assess plans for compliance with relevant codes and standards
- Evaluate and monitor fire safety plans
- Conduct investigations of fire scenes to determine cause and origin, as required
- Perform firefighting duties, as necessary
- Maintain qualified currency and personal competency relating to pertinent legislation, regulations, operational procedures and expected standards
- Respond to customer service enquiries and complaints and liaise with other City departments, outside agencies or regulatory bodies
- Adhere to legislated health and safety requirements as prescribed by related Acts and regulations, corporate policy and departmental operating procedures
- Perform other related duties as assigned

Qualifications

- Post-secondary diploma in Fire Prevention and Fire Protection Engineering, or equivalent
- Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD), or equivalent
- Office of the Fire Marshal and Emergency Management (OFMEM) Fire Prevention Officer certification, National Fire Protection Association certification, or equivalent
- Minimum of three (3) years of experience in fire inspection
- Possess the qualifications as prescribed in Division C Section 3.1.4 of the Ontario
