Senior Technical Business Analyst (3–4+ Month Contract)
Location: Victoria Region, BC / Hybrid
Project Description:
Our client is looking for a Senior Technical Business Analyst to support a strategic data centralization and visibility initiative within their IT department. This is a full life-cycle Business Analyst role focused on current-state data assessment, data governance, and technology roadmap development across a large, multi-department organization with 30+ business units, each managing its own budget and reporting.
The successful consultant will work closely with IT leadership, business stakeholders, and departmental teams to assess existing data environments, identify gaps in visibility and reporting, and help define a strategic path toward centralized, real-time data access — before any tools or platforms are selected.
Experience and Role Accountabilities
Minimum seven (7) years of experience working as a Business Analyst on enterprise-level technology or data initiatives, ideally in complex, multi-department environments.
Conduct current-state assessments of data sources, systems, and reporting practices to identify silos, gaps, and risks impacting organizational visibility.
Assess data governance practices and help determine whether a formal data governance plan is needed.
Support development of an integrated planning framework aligned with the organization's existing technology roadmap.
Define dashboard and reporting requirements to give leadership a clear, forward-looking view of the data and technology landscape.
Work closely with Finance-related databases and systems, translating financial and operational needs into technical requirements.
Identify technology and process gaps relative to the organization's broader technology plans and roadmaps.
Facilitate workshops and collaborate with stakeholders across multiple departments to gather requirements and validate findings.
Provide recommendations on tools, systems integration approaches, and next steps to support future technology decisions.
Education and Skills
Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Minimum seven (7) years of Business Analyst experience, ideally with exposure to multiple enterprise-level environments.
Strong technical BA background — comfortable working with analytics, dashboards, financial data, and system integration concepts.
Experience with (or strong understanding of) data governance principles and practices.
Experience building or contributing to technology roadmaps and strategic planning frameworks.
Familiarity with AI strategy or emerging technology planning is an asset.
Systems integration experience is an asset. No specific ERP experience is required.
Strong stakeholder management skills, with the ability to work across many departments and with senior leadership.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with robust facilitation and workshop experience.
Comfortable operating in ambiguity, with the ability to help scope and refine project timelines as work progresses.
Location: Victoria Region, BC.
Work Arrangement: Hybrid preferred (Victoria area); remote candidates considered, with onsite onboarding and periodic in-person visits.
Hours: Full-time or part-time, flexible based on project needs.
