Description Sessional Instructional Assistant
Course number and title: HMB306H1F – Ethical Considerations in Emerging Technology
Course Description: Advancing technology increases our ability to intervene in the course of natural events involving human health and well being. Questions arise as whether we ought to and who will benefit or be harmed. This course considers the far-reaching bioethical implications of emerging bio-technology. Topics to be explored include but are not limited to ethical considerations in emerging reproductive technologies, genetic alteration/genetic enhancement. Use of life support technologies, synthetic life, life extension.
Hours of Work : 108 (to be confirmed)
Class schedule : Lectures on Mondays 9am – 11am (in-person)
Sessional dates of appointment : September 1, 2026 - December 31, 2026
Salary : $55.25 per hour plus vacation pay;

Minimum qualifications Candidates should have a completed M.Sc. degree in a related field and basic knowledge of bioethics and ethical theory.
Preferred qualifications Previous Teaching Assistant experience in a bioethics course preferred.
Description of duties Assist in preparation of course syllabus and course marking scheme;
Assist in teaching weekly lectures and tutorials;




Assist in marking assignments and exams;
Provide office hours for academic counselling of students;
Assist in setting and marking assignments/exams
Assist in course administration in accordance with University regulations as described in the Faculty of Arts & Science Academic Handbook for Instructors.
